Black Lagoon, an anime and manga series that may have slipped off your radar, has made a surprising comeback with the opening of its very own temporary cafe in Tokyo and Kobe. Despite its hiatus from the spotlight, the series has garnered a dedicated following since its initial release in 2006 as a 24-episode anime. The manga, which began publication in 2002, continues to captivate fans to this day, making it over two decades old. In addition to the main series, two spin-off manga, namely Sōjiya Sawyer – Kaitai! Gore Gore Musume and Eda -Initial Stage-, have been keeping readers engaged since 2019 and 2022 respectively.
The Black Lagoon cafe, named after the fictional town of Roanapur, is located in Tokyo and Kobe, two major port cities in Japan known for their import and export activities. Despite the stark contrast between these cities and the gritty atmosphere of Roanapur, the cafe pays homage to the series' lore, creating a connection with fans even before they explore the menu and merchandise.
The menu at The Black Lagoon cafe features a variety of delicious options. There are five main dishes, two desserts, and seven drinks to choose from. Each item is creatively named after one of the beloved characters from the series. To add an extra touch of charm, the menu also showcases adorable chibi-style artwork of the character serving the dish named after them. For instance, you can savor Revy's red-hot ramen, which perfectly captures her fiery personality. Another delightful choice is Roberta's roll cake, designed in black and white to resemble her iconic nun's habit.
The cream sodas and soda floats in the menu are named after the Black Lagoon characters, offering a variety of flavors. For fans of specific characters, there is an option to order both the food and drink named after them, creating a fully themed dining experience. Each of the seven drinks corresponds to one of the food options, allowing for a cohesive and immersive experience.
Additionally, every food or drink item ordered from the menu includes a complimentary coaster featuring the new character art for the Black Lagoon cafe. Furthermore, each person receives an exclusive paper placemat with unique artwork specially created for the cafe. For those who prefer to have more control over their purchases, the cafe also offers special merchandise such as magnets, badges, files, and a drink tumbler.
The Black Lagoon cafe is open in Ikebukuro and Kobe until July 2nd, 2023, and more details can be found on the official website.
