Global Citizen Festival is coming back to New York City this September with a bang!
The free concert, aimed at ending extreme poverty, will take place for the 12th time at Central Park's Great Lawn on Saturday, September 28.
Since 2012, Central Park has been the home of the Global Citizen Festival, thanks to the partnership with NYC Parks and the City of New York,” said Global Citizen cofounder and CEO Hugh Evans. Each year, 60,000 global citizens gather on the Great Lawn to support our mission. We are excited to return on September 28 to continue our efforts to end extreme poverty.
As always, the event is free to attend. Stay tuned for the lineup and ticketing information, which will be announced in the coming months.
Last year, the concert on the Great Lawn showcased performances by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Jung Kook, Anitta, Conan Gray, D-Nice, Sofia Carson, and Stray Kids.
Previous Global Citizen events have featured incredible artists such as Metallica, Jonas Brothers, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, The Weeknd, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Stevie Wonder, Pearl Jam, and Beyoncé.
Central Park’s Great Lawn is well-known for hosting exciting live events that bring joy to both New Yorkers and tourists. According to NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue, the park has seen performances from iconic artists like Simon & Garfunkel and the NY Philharmonic. The Global Citizen Festival, held at the Great Lawn, goes beyond just being a music festival. It serves as a powerful reminder for all of us to take action and become active global citizens in the fight against poverty, inequality, and climate change.
The Global Citizen Festival, with its roots in New York, has expanded its reach to cities like Montreal, Mumbai, Hamburg, and Johannesburg. In September 2022, the festival made its way to Accra, Ghana, featuring incredible performances by artists such as Usher, SZA, Tems, and more.
New York City Councilmember Erik Bottcher expressed his excitement for the upcoming opening of the restored Great Lawn in Central Park. Thanks to the support of Global Citizen, this NYC gem will be ready just in time for spring. This will pave the way for a season full of inclusive cultural, philanthropic, and recreational events that contribute to making New York the amazing city that it is.
Since the inception of the Global Citizen Festival in 2012, over $43 billion has been distributed to nonprofit partners worldwide. These funds have positively impacted more than 1.3 billion lives, making a significant difference in communities around the globe.
