Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez is facing an extended spell out with injury.
Martinez has aggravated a foot injury he suffered in April at the end of last season.
The statement also mentioned that the club acknowledged his participation in the matches against Brighton and Bayern Munich despite his injury, which occurred during the loss at Arsenal on September 3. The club is currently assessing the situation and deciding on the next course of action.
Sergio Reguilon will not be available for Man Utd's match against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday due to a small injury. Manager Erik ten Hag had to deal with several injury problems at the beginning of the season, but now Mason Mount, Sofyan Amrabat, Raphael Varane, and Harry Maguire are fit and ready to play.
Martinez's injury forces United to rely on either Maguire, Lindelof, or Evans to substitute for him against Palace this Saturday and in the upcoming games until Martinez recovers.
In the absence of Shaw and Malacia, Reguilon, who was brought in on loan from Tottenham as a temporary left-back replacement, was supported by Amrabat during Wednesday's 3-0 victory over Palace in the Carabao Cup third round.
Man Utd is now lacking a senior left-back due to this recent setback. Amrabat stepped in as an inverted full-back during United's previous encounter with Palace, making a strong impression on his debut at Old Trafford.
Although Diogo Dalot, United's sole remaining fit recognized full-back, can be utilized on the left, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka still unavailable, Ten Hag has exhausted all options for providing adequate cover.
Ten Hag: The players can't deal with ever-expanding schedule
According to Ten Hag, the players are finding it difficult to deal with the continuously increasing football schedule."We had to enlarge the squad this season due to the pressures on the players," he remarked.
The previous season was extended due to the World Cup, resulting in a longer season. We experienced a shorter break as a consequence of playing the FA Cup and participating in the Nations League. The schedule continues to expand, placing excessive pressure on the players.
"Other colleagues have pointed to that, I have too, but the schedule keeps expanding. The players can't deal anymore with this overload and that is what you see in many squads."
