Taylor Swift and Harry Styles never go out of style.

Swift, aged 33, released 1989 (Taylor's Version) on October 27, marking her fourth re-recording out of a planned six. The album includes all 19 original tracks, along with five previously unreleased songs, some of which fans speculate may allude to her past romance with Styles, aged 29.

A synthy pop ballad titled "Is It Over Now?" sees Swift exploring the challenges of moving on from a past relationship when both individuals are constantly in the public spotlight.

"And did you really believe I was oblivious? / The glaring lights were impossible to miss," Swift sings, alluding to her ex being captured in photographs with a new partner. "Unlike me, who concealed my outings discreetly / Only rumors circulated about my figure and my suppressed desires," she adds.

Swift proceeds to label her former flame as a "deceptive betrayer" while accusing them of seeking something better in "every supermodel's embrace." (Styles was romantically linked to Kendall Jenner between 2013 and 2014.) Elsewhere in the song, Swift refers to the ex's "replacement" as her "copycat" and jests about their shared struggle to move on from the failed romance.

"Skipping ahead to three hundred awkward blind dates down the road," she sings. "If she has blue eyes, my guess is that you'll likely go out with her."

However, Swift's slyest hint that the song could be about Styles emerges in the second verse, as she vividly describes past memories. "When you lost control / Blood stained against pure snow," she reminisces. These visuals bear a striking resemblance to "Out of the Woods" from the original tracklist of the album 1989, where she recounts a harrowing experience with the lyrics, "Remember when you slammed on the brakes too soon/Twenty stitches in a hospital room/When you started crying, baby, I did too."

In a 2014 Rolling Stone interview, Swift shared a snowmobile accident she had with an ex. Instead of relying on a non-disclosure agreement, Swift believed in the power of a sincere request to keep the incident confidential. Adding to the drama, Styles was spotted wearing a bandage on his chin shortly after the accident occurred.

In the second verse of "Is It Over Now?", Swift reminisces about a specific moment involving a blue dress on a boat. It is believed that Swift and Styles ended their relationship during a trip to the Virgin Islands in 2013. According to an exclusive source, they had a heated argument and Styles said something inappropriate. Swift was captured in photographs looking sad and wearing a royal blue dress, as she left the vacation on a boat.

Swift and Styles were initially linked romantically in late 2012, but they ultimately broke up in January 2013. Despite their short-lived romance, many fans believe that Swift's album "1989," released in October 2014 and signifying her transition into pop music, was primarily influenced by her relationship with Styles. Several tracks from the album, including "Out of the Woods" and "Style," appear to reflect this connection.

Although Swift has never officially confirmed that her music is directly about Styles, she has dropped hints about it. In an interview with Rolling Stone after the release of "1989," she suggested that "Style" could easily have been titled "I'm Not Even Sorry." In December 2014, she further discussed the inspiration behind the song during an appearance on The Morning Show.

"‘Style’ is essentially about those enduring connections that never truly conclude," she elaborated at the time. "There is always that one individual who you sense might disrupt your wedding and caution, 'Don't do it, we haven't finished yet.' I believe everyone has that one person who intermittently enters and exits their life, and the story is never truly resolved."

Styles expressed his thoughts on being a possible inspiration for Swift during a 2014 interview with Google Hangout. He acknowledged that writing from personal experience is a common practice and praised Swift's talent in crafting good songs. He considered himself fortunate in this regard. In a later conversation with Rolling Stone in 2017, Styles elaborated on his beliefs, stating that he was grateful if their experiences together influenced the creation of meaningful songs. He explained that these deeply emotional and personal aspects are the most challenging to articulate, which is why he rarely discusses them. Ultimately, he emphasized that these songs are a reflection of their relationship.

Swift and Styles have seemingly maintained a cordial relationship since their breakup, frequently seen engaging in lively conversations at various awards shows over the years. Both have also moved on to pursue relationships with other high-profile individuals. Prior to her current relationship with Travis Kelce, Swift has been romantically involved with Tom Hiddleston, Calvin Harris, and Joe Alwyn. On the other hand, Styles recently ended his two-year relationship with Olivia Wilde in November 2022. In June, he sparked speculation of a romance with Taylor Russell when the pair were sighted together in London.
