To optimize the use of Deadpool in the upcoming Wolverine game, it would be wise to emulate the style of one of Like a Dragon's beloved characters. This choice not only aligns well but also builds upon the successful dynamic established in its original series. While Wolverine and Like a Dragon may not share many similarities, that does not mean they are completely incompatible. In fact, Deadpool could serve as a perfect bridge between the two worlds.
Although Marvel's Wolverine gameplay details remain undisclosed, fans can formulate certain assumptions based on the character. Wolverine is renowned as the toughest member of the X-Men and holds immense popularity. His adamantium-coated skeleton and innate healing abilities render him one of Marvel's most resilient heroes, while his sharp claws enhance his aggressive and violent combat style. Given these attributes, it is safe to assume that Marvel's Wolverine will heavily focus on combat to effectively showcase the character's strengths. The anticipated M-rating also suggests a more intense and violent approach compared to Marvel's typical offerings, opening the door for Deadpool to potentially make an appearance.
Deadpool Could be Marvel's Wolverine's Version of Goro Majima
Like a Dragon's incredibly popular character, Goro Majima, may not be the protagonist of the series, but he is so iconic that it's hard to imagine the series without him. As a one-eyed gangster with a unique style and personality, his main goal in life is to constantly challenge the series' protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu. Despite this, he has never been portrayed as a true antagonist in any of the games after the first one, often just being seen as an annoyance to Kiryu. Majima has even been featured in his own campaigns in a few titles, with Yakuza 0 being his most prominent and impactful appearance.
Taking inspiration from Majima, it would be a perfect opportunity to introduce a cameo appearance from Marvel's Deadpool in the upcoming game, Wolverine. Similar to Majima, Deadpool is wild, unpredictable, and known for his hilarious antics. Deadpool also possesses a healing factor comparable to Wolverine's and has a tendency to break the fourth wall, which has become one of his defining characteristics. He would easily fit into the role of the comedic counterpart to the serious protagonist, much like Majima does. Furthermore, Deadpool's entertaining personality and enduring popularity would make him a valuable addition to the game, regardless of his connection to the series.
Deadpool's assets, such as his tenacity and remarkable ability to heal rapidly, make him a prime candidate for replicating Majima's famous role in Yakuza Kiwami 2's Majima Everywhere system. Similar to Majima's appearances in various costumes and situations to spar with Kiryu, Deadpool could effortlessly drop into the story at random intervals just for the sake of annoying Logan out of boredom. Moreover, due to his speedy healing, he would always rebound no matter how badly Wolverine outperforms him in a fight.
Considering Deadpool's immense popularity and more mature-rated style in comparison to other heroes, it would not come as a surprise for him to make an appearance in Marvel's Wolverine. While Logan will undoubtedly focus on combating his own set of adversaries, there should be enough room to incorporate a few skirmishes with Deadpool amidst these more intense battles. Not only would these fights serve as an engaging test for players, but they would also provide ample opportunities for delightful banter, thanks to the contrasting personalities of the two characters. Marvel's Wolverine could undoubtedly benefit from treating Deadpool in a similar vein to Goro Majima from Like a Dragon.
Marvel's Wolverine is currently in development.
