Deadpool 3 release date

Deadpool 3 is set for release on July 26, 2024. While production was halted due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, filming is (almost) back in session.

The movie's release date was rescheduled due to the ongoing impact of the 2023 strikes, as reported by Deadline. Consequently, it will now be the only MCU release in 2024. Initially slated for September 6, and then November 8, Marvel has recently made significant changes to their release schedule. This also suggests that Deadpool 3 will likely be among the initial films in Phase Six of the MCU.

In a recent interview with TheWrap, director Shawn Levy expressed concern over the release date, stating, "The release date is at true risk… I'm not even sure if we have an official release date. We were originally aiming for May 3."

"The actors' strike and the extended production pause have definitely jeopardized that release date. We have completed shooting half of the film and I have edited half of it. We are eager to resume work and bring this movie to audiences next year."

We’ll update this space once we have more information.

Is there a Deadpool 3 trailer?

Ryan Reynolds revealed a now-changed release date in a video shared to Twitter, which also confirmed the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. You can watch it below:

However, at present, there is no official trailer or any other teaser footage available. What we do have, though, is a glimpse of Reynolds and Jackman in their costumes, which you can see below:

Deadpool 3: Latest Updates on Release Date, Cast, and Plot

Fox / DisneyDeadpool 3 could see the return of the remaining X-Force characters or bring in a brand new supporting cast

No Deadpool film is complete without the presence of the titular anti-hero. Ryan Reynolds, who reprises his role as Deadpool for the third installment, is actively involved in crafting the script.

Joining Reynolds, Morena Baccarin is set to return as Wade Wilson's wife Vanessa, having appeared in the first two Deadpool movies.

Other characters returning from the first two Deadpool movies include Dopinder and Blind Al, portrayed by Karan Soni and Leslie Uggams respectively. Stefan Kapicic will reprise his role as Colossus, while Brianna Hildebrand returns as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, as reported by Deadline. Additionally, fan-favorite X-Force member Peter, played by Rob Delaney, will make a comeback.

But the exciting update is that Hugh Jackman is making a comeback as Wolverine! It's been a long seven years since Logan, the film that many thought would be his last.

Surprisingly, Zazie Beetz will not reprise her role as Domino, despite expressing her openness to returning. Earlier in the year, she shared with ScreenRant, "I am hopeful that Domino will be a part of this, but if not, that's okay too. The crew and team are amazing, and I have a deep love for Deadpool and Domino. If it doesn't work out here, maybe I'll explore my own Domino origins or something similar."

Additional characters that could make a comeback in the upcoming Deadpool 3 include Cable (played by Josh Brolin) and the remaining X-Force members. Additionally, the film has the opportunity to introduce new characters from the X-Men universe now that the potential for a proper connection between the two universes exists.

Furthermore, insider Daniel Richtman has stated that Mobius (played by Owen Wilson) will play a significant role in Deadpool 3. This aligns with the movie's theme of multiverse travel. It could also be a hint at Cable's involvement, considering his past conflicts with the TVA.

One exciting addition to the line-up is the talented Emma Corrin from The Crown, who has recently been announced as part of the cast in a yet-to-be-revealed character. Speculations about her role are circulating, but no confirmation has been made.

On March 28, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Matthew Macfadyen, known for his role in Succession, has been added to the cast of Deadpool 3. The specific character he will be portraying has yet to be revealed.

Another confirmed role in the film is Elektra, which will be reprised by Jennifer Garner.

According to insider information, there are speculations that Ben Affleck might be returning to his previous portrayal of Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil. Additionally, there have been rumors suggesting that Channing Tatum may make a cameo appearance as Gambit, a member of the X-Men.

Most recently, rumors about Daniel Radcliffe playing an “unknown “secret role” have also been circling.

Deadpool 3 plot: What will the film be about?

Reynolds suggests that the sequel has the potential to explore a fresh direction for both the character and the storyline. He hints at the possibility of the third film diverging entirely, stating that it often takes numerous movies before a reboot or character transformation occurs. Given the prominent role of time-travel in Deadpool 2, the third installment could further embrace this aspect and potentially use it as a seamless means of incorporating the character into the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Judging from the appearances of X-Men characters and the behind-the-scenes footage (check below), it is highly probable that Deadpool will address the transition of these characters from 20th Century Fox to the MCU in a self-referential manner. Additionally, it is expected that Deadpool and Wolverine will engage in a confrontation at some point.

Despite being under the Disney Umbrella now, Deadpool will maintain its R rating for its third installment, as affirmed by numerous individuals from Marvel. Levy further described the film as "raw," "audacious," and unlike anything fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have previously experienced.

As stated by Shawn Levy to Deadline, "Our film is bold, daring, and unapologetically R-rated. We went to great lengths to avoid filming in artificial sets with digital backdrops. The internet has already leaked images from our shoot," Levy continued. "However, our intention was to create something rooted in reality. When you have Hugh Jackman embodying his most iconic character alongside Ryan Reynolds as his most iconic character, I would describe it as more of a successor to "Midnight Run," "48 Hours," and "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" than to "Airplane."

Fans speculate that the upcoming movie, Deadpool 3, will loosely follow the 'Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe' storyline. In this iteration, Owen Wilson's character, Mobius, along with the TVA, will embark on a journey through various timelines in pursuit of the antihero, who wreaks havoc and creates a gory commotion. Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z netizen, I am eagerly anticipating the release of Deadpool 3. The Merc with a Mouth's return to the big screen promises to be an action-packed, hilarious, and boundary-pushing experience. The addition of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine only adds to the excitement, as fans have been clamoring to see these two iconic characters share the screen for years.

The delay in the release date is disappointing, but understandable given the challenges of the past few years. I am confident that the wait will be worth it, as the filmmakers have had more time to craft a truly special film. I can't wait to see what Deadpool and Wolverine get up to this time, and I am sure that they will leave audiences laughing and cheering in their seats.
