David Harbour has been “getting a lot of calls” to start filming Stranger Things season 5 — and he can’t wait.

Harbour, 48, expressed his anticipation and enthusiasm for the upcoming season of the Netflix series. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on November 9th, he compared himself to a horse at the starting gates, full of drive and passion. Despite the challenges posed by the SAG-AFTRA strike, which recently ended after nearly four months, Harbour remains determined to work diligently and swiftly to deliver the next installment to fans. He believes the audience will be thrilled by what awaits them, as the scripts are of excellent quality.

“I feel like a part of me is emotionally connected to my work, particularly acting, and I am incredibly passionate about it. Not being able to pursue it has been quite frustrating for me,” he expressed.

The production of Stranger Things season 5, which is said to be the last season of the show, was scheduled to start filming in May. However, it was delayed due to the strike by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA against the major studios in search of improved contracts. While the WGA reached a new agreement in September, SAG-AFTRA called off their strike on Thursday.

Harbour is eager to return to Georgia, where Stranger Things is primarily filmed, in order to provide his character and the fans with the appropriate conclusion they deserve. "I have a deep affection for the show and a strong attachment to the character of Jim Hopper," he expressed to THR. "As this is the final season, I'm excited to fully immerse myself in this role, which has had a significant impact on my career and has become my personal favorite among all the characters I've come to adore on screen."

Furthermore, he expressed his anticipation in providing his character with the conclusive ending he had envisioned from the beginning. He has an immense fondness for this concluding chapter and eagerly looks forward to investing his emotions and creativity into it.

Harbour hinted on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast in August that he is aware of the conclusion of the series, indicating that it will be an emotional farewell for the team battling monsters. He also mentioned that season 5 will not immediately continue from the aftermath of season 4. In the previous season, Max was in a coma and the group was struggling as the Upside Down started to invade Hawkins, Indiana.

"Following the events of season 4's conclusion, where we were last seen on that hill observing the aftermath of destruction and fires, our story will pick up from a point beyond that. In this new chapter, the world has undergone significant changes."

Although he did mention that the final season will require a substantial amount of time to film, he assured viewers that the Duffer brothers will provide a satisfying resolution for all the characters, especially those who have been with us since the very beginning, such as Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Hopper, Joyce (Winona Ryder), Will (Noah Schnapp), and Mike (Finn Wolfhard).

“They’re going to pay them off in big ways because they’ve lived with you for the past eight years,” he said.
