Daryl Dixon's spinoff series in The Walking Dead will be a standalone story, according to director Greg Nicotero. Taking place after the events of The Walking Dead series, Daryl finds himself stranded in France with no recollection of how he ended up there. As he tries to make his way back to Virginia, Daryl will also unravel the mystery surrounding his sudden appearance overseas.
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Nicotero shared that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will have the most individualistic plot in the franchise. Furthermore, he hinted at the unique approach the series will take towards The Walking Dead universe. Read below for Nicotero's comments.
What Daryl's Spinoff Being Standalone Means For The Walking Dead Universe
: An Unforgettable Journey Into a World of AdventureIn addition to Daryl, another familiar face from The Walking Dead will make an appearance in France. It was recently announced that Carol will rejoin The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, suggesting that both characters will embark on a journey back to Alexandria after ending up in Paris. Although Daryl will remain the most geographically isolated from the core group of survivors, he will not face his circumstances alone.
However, if The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon takes a more standalone approach in its presentation, it raises doubts about Daryl and Carol's fate within the wider Walking Dead universe. If their journey in France is disconnected from the rest of The Walking Dead franchise, it decreases the likelihood of a future reunion between Daryl and Rick Grimes. Despite the potential scenario of Daryl being taken to France by the CRM, it appears that the duo is destined to remain apart, potentially until the end of The Walking Dead universe.
Nevertheless, just because The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is more autonomous than other shows, it doesn't mean it won't pave the way for a crossover involving other core survivors. Daryl's new series could be laying the groundwork for his eventual return to Virginia, setting him up for a more prominent role in the future of The Walking Dead universe. However, at present, it seems that Daryl's adventures in France during The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will be completely separate from the other spinoffs currently in production.
