Daredevil: Born Again recruits acclaimed Netflix’s Punisher producer as showrunner

Marvel's Daredevil reboot finds new life with the addition of a talented showrunner from Netflix's The Punisher, promising an electrifying revival for the highly anticipated Daredevil: Born Again series

Marvel has made an exciting announcement regarding Daredevil: Born Again, as they have appointed Dario Scardapane, the producer of Punisher, as the new showrunner. Given the previous reports surrounding the production's difficulties, fans have understandably approached this news with caution. The series, along with Charlie Cox's reprisal of his role, had been highly anticipated during the SDCC '22 announcements by MCU.

Since then, it has all been a rollercoaster ride. The initial news of Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll not reprising their roles indicated some troubles ahead. But now, Daredevil: Born Again is facing even more uncertainty with the recent dismissal of its directors and writers. However, Marvel is now enlisting the help of someone well-versed in this universe to steer the show back in the right direction.

Marvel’s Daredevil reboot adds The Punisher producer as new showrunner

In addition, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead will join the show as directors for the remaining episodes of Daredevil: Born Again's first season.

NetflixCharlie Cox reprises his role as superhero lawyer Matt Murdock for Daredevil: Born Again.

All three individuals have experience in working on Marvel's television projects. Scardapane, the new showrunner, previously served as the executive producer for The Punisher, a spin-off of the original Daredevil series. Meanwhile, Benson and Moorhead have collaborated on two episodes of Loki Season, including the season opener titled Ouroboros and the intense fourth episode, Heart of the TVA, which appeared to have significant consequences for the universe.

These new additions to the team come in response to an article published by The Hollywood Reporter on October 11th. The article shed light on various challenges within the Marvel production system, with a primary concern being that Daredevil: Born Again was not successful and led to staff layoffs.

The recruitment of new staff members is aimed at restructuring the TV division of the MCU. This involves moving away from the previous practice of shooting the entire series at once and making corrections during post-production. Instead, the new approach adopts a more conventional pilot system, with each series overseen by showrunners. Expect Daredevil: Born Again to be available on Disney+ in 2024.
