Cristiano Ronaldo, known for shining in important games, made his 1,200th professional match one to remember by scoring a goal and assisting another in the Saudi Pro League. Playing for Al Nassr, he played a key role in their 4-1 victory over Al Riyadh on Friday.
"Three more points!" Ronaldo exclaimed on his Instagram page. "Grateful to my teammates for their support in reaching my 1,200th match. What a journey, and it's not over yet!"
At 38 years old, Ronaldo scored his 16th goal of the season, leading the league with a close-range conversion of Sadio Mané's cross. He also contributed to his team's advantage by providing a superb assist, crossing for Otavio to head home before the break.
Reuters reports that Peter Shilton, former England goalkeeper, holds the record for the most professional appearances by a male soccer player with a total of 1,387 competitive games. Meanwhile, in June, Ronaldo made history by becoming the first male player to achieve 200 international appearances, scoring a late winner for Portugal.
In 2022, he made history by breaking FIFA's all-time record for the most goals in competitive matches in men's football while playing for Manchester United.
Ronaldo joined Al Nassr and made his debut in January after signing a lucrative two-and-a-half year contract estimated by media to be worth over 200 million euros ($220.16 million).
Al Nassr is second in the league, seven points behind Al Hilal after 16 games.
