Good TV series always have a villain that viewers love to hate. In a recent poll for the most despised character of all time, a "spoiled brat" was expected to take the top spot.
In 2023, there were standout villain debuts in shows like Rick & Morty Season 7, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. But in a recent poll of the most despised characters, some fans believe a particular small character should have been ranked much higher on the list.
Fans think Caillou deserves most hated character of all time
According to a recent Ranker poll, Joffrey Baratheon from Game of Thrones was voted as the most reviled character of all time, although some fans argue that there could have been a different victor.
In the ninth spot is Caillou, the main character of the 1997 kids' TV series. Despite being just a toddler, some people on social media argue that he deserved a higher ranking, labeling him as a "spoiled brat."
"Can't believe Caillou didn't come in first," one user commented on X/Twitter in reaction to the results. "Caillou, the spoiled brat, definitely deserves the top spot!" another added.
"Well, now I dislike Caillou even more because I realize how relatable he is," a third person chimed in. "I used to love watching that show as a kid, but I have to admit, I forgot how whiny and irritating he can be," remarked a fourth.
Caillou, who affectionately refers to himself as The Prince of Imagination, is a creative four-year-old boy who has a passion for modes of transportation such as rocket ships and airplanes. This leads him to often engage in dream sequences, during which his toys and pet cat appear as puppets.
One unaffected mother shared her relief that her daughters, now 30 and 26, never took an interest in watching #Caillou. She jokingly attributed the character's annoyance to its Canadian origin and reminisced about the years of watching #Barney instead.

As a Gen Z fan, I have mixed feelings about Caillou being voted as the most hated character of all time. On the one hand, I can understand why people find him annoying. He is a whiny, spoiled brat who always gets his way. On the other hand, I think he is a realistic portrayal of a toddler. Toddlers are often selfish and demanding, and Caillou is no exception.
I think the reason why Caillou is so hated is because he reminds us of the worst parts of ourselves. We all have moments when we are whiny and spoiled, and Caillou just happens to be a character who embodies those qualities. I think it's important to remember that Caillou is just a cartoon character, and we shouldn't take him too seriously.
That being said, I do think that Caillou could be a better role model for children. He could learn to be more grateful for what he has and to be less demanding. I think it would be great if there was a new Caillou show that focused on teaching children about these important values.
