Rennala, known as the Queen of the Full Moon, is a demigod in Elden Ring. Players will face her in an epic battle within the grand library of the prestigious Academy of Raya Lucaria. Upon triumphing over Rennala in this legendary dungeon, fans will face the dilemma of deciding their next course of action. At this stage of the game, there is an abundance of content to explore.
This guide assumes that the reader desires to uncover all that Elden Ring has to offer, including its optional quests and hidden areas. Once Liurnia is conquered, and assuming the player has vanquished Godrick, there are still numerous tasks awaiting completion before confronting the next crucial required boss.
Updated July 16, 2023 by Erik Petrovich: After defeating Rennala in Elden Ring, players have several distinct choices for their next destination. Exploring areas like Liurnia and Caelid is just the beginning, as there is a lot more to do in the game. The Carian Queen is typically the second major Shardbearer that players defeat, following Godrick. This accomplishment unlocks Leyndell, which opens up a whole new section of the game. Even in these early Elden Ring areas, there is still plenty to accomplish. This includes progressing through various NPC questlines and ultimately facing off against the formidable General Radahn in Caelid. Players who are unsure of where to go after defeating Rennala will find a wealth of content in the areas they have yet to explore, as well as hidden surprises in zones they may have thought were thoroughly explored.
Continue Several Elden Ring NPC Questlines
Once Rennala is vanquished in Elden Ring, it presents an opportune moment to delve deeper into the narratives of various non-playable characters (NPCs) scattered across Liurnia, Limgrave, and even Caelid. Within the vicinity of Raya Lucaria, an abundance of NPCs await discovery, while a handful of them can only be further pursued in Caelid and Limgrave.
Make sure to locate Varre, Yura, and Diallos in their initial positions in Limgrave and the Roundtable Hold before searching for them elsewhere in Liurnia and beyond. You must meet each NPC in these spots first, as they will only relocate after encountering them here.
Once you have finished Caria Manor, commence Ranni's questline in Elden Ring. Fans should also visit Seluvis's Rise, located southeast of Ranni's, to initiate his questline.
Continue progressing through Yura's questline in Elden Ring.
Visit the Rose Church to the south of Raya Lucaria Academy to continue Varre's questline.
Start Rya's questline in Elden Ring by speaking with her just east of the Scenic Isle Site of Grace.
Continue Nepehli Loux's questline in the Village of the Albinaurics.
Talk to Diallos in Academy Gate Town southeast of the Academy of Raya Lucaria.
Begin Latenna's questline at the end of the Lakeside Crystal Cave - simply avoid using the teleporter to return to the dungeon entrance. Instead, continue a few steps beyond the boss room and you will find her with her wolf, near a grace that can only be accessed through this mini-dungeon.
Defeat General Radahn (& Other Major Bosses)
Elden Ring players commonly consider Rennala as the second significant boss to conquer and the second Shardbearer that most Tarnished players defeat. Though Godrick can be accessed earlier in the game, it is advisable for players to prioritize defeating Rennala in order to unlock the ability to re-spec. This reward is best obtained sooner rather than later.
One option after Rennala is to encounter other formidable demigods, and among them, General Radahn stands out as being particularly feared. However, if players possess just two Great Runes, they can also conveniently proceed towards Morgott, the Omen King, as an alternative. In this scenario, Radahn becomes an optional boss since defeating Morgott grants access to the Mountaintops of Giants and the Forge of Giants.
Explore Liurnia of the Lakes
Before departing from Liurnia of the Lakes, it is crucial for players to extensively explore the region, particularly if it has not been fully investigated prior to confronting Raya Lucaria. Certain tasks must be completed prior to venturing to the Altus Plateau, as these areas become astonishingly trivial in later stages of the game.
In Liurnia, there is a wide array of activities available for exploration, such as an additional Legacy Dungeon, around twelve dungeons, and numerous captivating locations to discover. These sites offer abundant opportunities to obtain valuable loot and behold breathtaking scenery. For those starting their journey in Liurnia after Rennala, the following recommendations highlight some notable destinations:
Begin by venturing into Caria Manor, a Legacy Dungeon situated in the northwest corner of Liurnia.
Head to the Village of the Albinaurics situated in the southwestern region of Liurnia and embark on a quest to find the Haligtree Secret Medallion (Right).
Once you've explored the Lakeside Crystal Cave, resist the urge to use the teleporter immediately, as there is a nearby questline that requires your attention.
Explore Caelid
After attending to Liurnia, players are granted the freedom to venture towards Caelid, the region situated to the east of Limgrave. Fans can access Caelid by following the pathway that runs along the northern side of Limgrave, or by utilizing the teleporting chest located beneath Limgrave's Dragonburnt Ruins to reach the Sellia Crystal Tunnel.
However, it is important to note that the first route to Caelid harbors a variety of menacing canines and avian creatures, while the second route transports players to the heart of the Scarlet Rot, the Aeonian Swamp. Despite the menacing presence, there is an abundance of thrilling exploration to be experienced here, particularly if you spared Godrick's life – in such a case, Radahn may serve as your next target to obtain the second Great Rune.
To further advance in Alexander Iron Fist's questline, venture into the Gael Tunnel located in the western region of Caelid. Alternatively, you may come across him from the opposite direction, but you will be unable to unlock the door.
Embark on an exploration of Sellia, known as the Town of Sorcery, which grants players access to the higher tiers of Caelid, the Church of the Plague, and the Dragonbarrow.
Embark on Millicent's questline in Elden Ring, commencing with a journey to Gowry's Shack situated east of the Aeonia Swamp. This captivating quest encompasses multiple stages set within the realm of Caelid.
Make your way to Fort Faroth, nestled within the Dragonbarrow, a captivating sub-area within Caelid. Here, procure the prized Dectus Medallion (Right).
Travel to the Bestial Sanctum in the northeast corner of the Dragonbarrow. It's easier to get here through D's questline, though, which teleports players from Limgrave.
Explore Ainsel River and Siofra River
Trips to two underground locations are the final acts that players should perform before visiting the legacy dungeon with the third demigod.
The first underground area is called Ainsel River and can be reached through the Ainsel River Well located north of the Study Hall in eastern Liurnia. While the majority of this region, along with its connected areas, is only accessible later in the game, this initial portion of Ainsel River is definitely worth exploring. Here, players can find valuable materials for crafting, unique weapons and armor, as well as encounter a visually stunning yet challenging boss.
Another significant underground location is the Siofra River, accessible through the Siofra River Well near the Minor Erdtree in the Mistwood of Limgrave. It is highly recommended that players locate Elden Ring's Blaidd in the Siofra River before leaving, especially if they have already begun Ranni the Witch's questline. This particular area is widely regarded as the most breathtaking in the game, so take your time and be cautious of the archers to avoid untimely demise.
Elden Ring is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S.
