Over 50,000 runners will gather in New York City this Sunday, turning the city into a captivating mix of a stadium, carnival, and an extraordinary test of endurance.
Renowned as one of the top five marathon majors, this race is considered one of the most prestigious running events worldwide, mainly due to its challenging and fluctuating route.
Where will runners go?
The 26.2 mile route of the race will take runners through all five boroughs of New York City. Starting in Staten Island, it will then wind its way through Brooklyn before crossing into Manhattan via the Queensboro Bridge just after the 15th mile. From there, the route briefly heads north into The Bronx before bringing runners back through Harlem towards Central Park, where the race will finish.

Who is racing in the elite race?
Defending mens champion Evans Chebet has already defended his Boston Marathon title this year and is seeking to complete the double-double in New York.
According to the races official website, he stated that his aim is to make history, considering that no one has won Boston and New York in consecutive years since Bill Rodgers in the 1970s.
Geoffrey Kamworor, a two-time champion from Kenya, and Mosinet Geremew, a two-time world silver medalist, will pose as strong competitors. Additionally, Edward Cheserek, the highly accomplished NCAA athlete, will be making his marathon debut.

In the women's race, Peres Jepchirchir, the current Olympic champion, is vying for her second title in New York. She will be facing off against Brigid Kosgei, a former world-record holder, and Hellen Obiri, the Boston Marathon champion.
Meanwhile, Letesenbet Gidey is making her New York Marathon debut after she recorded the fastest ever womens marathon debut last year.
What about celebrity runners?
Several celebrities, including Grammy and Tony award-winning singer Patina Miller, well-known for her leading role in "Sister Act," and former NHL star Zdeno Chara, will be among the thousands of amateur runners at the start line. They are participating to raise money for charity. Patina Miller is running to support Komera, an organization that provides resources for young women in Rwanda. Olympic bobsled champion Steve Mesler is also taking part to support Classroom Champions, a program that empowers children through mentorship by athletes.
