Colin Jost Reacts Awkwardly to 'SNL' Joke About Scarlett Johansson's Appearance

During a recent 'SNL' Weekend Update segment, Colin Jost finds himself in an uncomfortable position as he reads a joke poking fun at his wife Scarlett Johansson's physical attributes. The humorous exchange between Jost and his cohost Michael Che adds a touch of awkwardness to the show's May 18 episode.

During the annual Saturday Night Live joke swap on “Weekend Update,” Michael Che made sure to mention Colin Jost’s wife, Scarlett Johansson.

"Oh, God," Jost, who is 41 years old, joked when he saw his wife's name on the teleprompter on Saturday, May 18. He then mentioned that ChatGPT has introduced a new voice assistant feature inspired by Scarlett Johansson's AI character in the movie "Her."

Jost went on to say, "I've never really been interested in watching it because, without that physical presence, what's the fun in just listening?"

Jost struggled to hold back his laughter as he shared the joke, eventually hiding his face in his hands.

Che, who is 41 years old, chuckled at Jost’s reaction and then confidently announced that there was more to the joke.

"So Rabbi Jill," Jost said, mentioning the religious figure Che had invited to join them. "If you're here, who's in charge of the weather?"

Jost and Che have been co-anchors of "Weekend Update" since season 40 of SNL in 2014. Every Christmas and at the end of the broadcast season, like when Jake Gyllenhaal hosted, the duo exchange jokes. Neither comedian sees what the other has written before the live show, which has made Johansson, 39, anxious to watch in the past.

Johansson shared on The Kelly Clarkson Show in July 2021 that whenever she watches SNL, she feels a slight sense of panic. It's not overwhelming, just a little underwhelming panic, as she always anticipates something going wrong during the live show. This unpredictability is what makes SNL exciting for both the cast and the audience.

She also mentioned that when you are emotionally invested in the show, it takes on a different meaning compared to just being entertained by it.

Johansson first met Jost when she hosted an episode of SNL. They began dating in 2017 and tied the knot three years later. Their son, Cosmo, was born a year after their wedding. (Johansson also has a daughter named Rose from a previous relationship.)

After getting married, Jost often jokes about Johansson. Recently, he mentioned Johansson as the one bringing home the bacon.

"This year, for the first time since 2009, a Marvel movie did not start off the summer movie season," Jost joked on the May 11 episode of SNL. He added, "Let's hope this is just a one-time occurrence because many people count on Marvel movies to cover the costs of the ferries they purchased."

In 2022, Jost and former SNL cast member Pete Davidson bought a retired Staten Island Ferry boat. Their plan is to refurbish it and turn it into a unique entertainment venue.

Saturday Night Live airs on NBC Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET.
