CNN projects Biden as winner of Hawaii Democratic caucuses

CNN projects President Joe Biden as the victor of Hawaii’s Democratic presidential contest, further solidifying his path towards securing the party's 2024 nomination.

President Joe Biden is projected to win Hawaii's Democratic presidential contest on Wednesday, according to CNN. This victory continues his path towards securing the party's nomination for the 2024 election.

Biden emerged as the clear winner, defeating four other candidates in the race. The contenders included Jason Palmer, the relatively unknown entrepreneur who recently won the American Samoa caucuses, self-help guru Marianne Williamson, and Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips, who withdrew from the race earlier on Wednesday.

In Hawaii on Wednesday, voters had the choice to select “uncommitted,” indicating their dissatisfaction with Biden without supporting any other candidate. Additionally, there were 22 delegates up for grabs for the Democratic National Convention.

Hawaii’s Democratic contest was organized by the state’s Democratic Party, not the government. In 2020, Biden won the primary which was done through mail-in voting. However, this year, party officials decided to save money by holding a one-day contest without mail-in voting.

Hawaii’s Republican caucuses are set to happen on March 12.

President Biden's projected victory in Hawaii's Democratic contest underscores his steady progress towards securing the party's nomination for 2024. This win showcases his continued popularity and support among the Democratic base. Despite facing challenges from other candidates, Biden's dominance in the race highlights his strong position as the frontrunner.

The absence of mail-in voting in Hawaii's contest underscores the party's efforts to reduce costs. However, it also raises concerns about potential voter suppression and accessibility issues. The decision to hold a one-day contest without mail-in voting may have limited participation and disenfranchised certain segments of the population. It is crucial for the Democratic Party to ensure that all eligible voters have equal opportunities to participate in the electoral process, regardless of the voting method employed.
