The public transportation system in Cities: Skylines 2 is designed to provide players with a realistic and engaging experience. However, there are certain unique options that are currently not included in the game, such as blimps, cable cars, and monorails.
The Mass Transit DLC introduced various transportation choices, such as blimps, which brought a delightful and distinctive touch to cities in the original version of Cities: Skylines.
The omission of blimps in Cities: Skylines 2 is regrettable as it deprives the game of its distinctive aesthetic and limited transportation options. It is our hope that future DLC updates will include the addition of blimps.
The cities in Cities: Skylines 2 offer a wide variety of public transportation options, just like in real life. Players can utilize buses, taxis, trains, and subways to efficiently transport citizens to their destinations. These options not only add a sense of realism to the cities, but also greatly alleviate traffic issues. However, despite the improvements made to the overall transportation system in the game, Cities: Skylines 2 has unfortunately omitted one of its most distinctive transportation features.
Although Cities: Skylines 2 successfully replicates the reality of public transportation, it curiously lacks many of the additional modes of transportation introduced in the Mass Transit DLC of the original game. While ferries seem to have made a comeback, notable absences include cable cars, monorails, and blimps. Each of these options added a unique and enjoyable touch to cities, with blimps being particularly beloved. Regrettably, Colossal Order has chosen to exclude them this time, and this omission should be addressed.
Cities: Skylines 2 Needs to Bring Blimps Back
Cities: Skylines significantly enhanced its public transportation system through the release of the Mass Transit DLC pack. This expansion introduced innovative transportation mechanics, improving the overall gameplay experience. Players gained the ability to construct mass transit hubs, employ new road types for efficient traffic flow, and experiment with various transportation options. Although not every feature was exceptional, this DLC pack rapidly became essential for enthusiastic city builders.
One of the most outstanding additions in the Mass Transit DLC was the introduction of blimps. With blimps, Cities: Skylines players could establish new transportation routes, allowing citizens to travel through the skies. The city's skyline quickly became adorned with these immense aircraft as they gracefully moved between stops. Moreover, these blimps showcased enormous advertisements on their sides, granting cities a completely fresh and distinctive atmosphere.
Why Blimps Would Have Been a Great Addition to Cities: Skylines 2
In the game, Cities: Skylines, the blimps were not the most practical choice for public transportation due to their large space requirement, but they were certainly the most distinctive. Unlike real cities that rely on trains, taxis, buses, and even ferries to transport their residents, the game offered a unique feature allowing citizens to travel to work in massive blimps soaring through the skies. This distinctive transportation option stood out among the others, yet, for unknown reasons, it was ultimately neglected.
Cities: Skylines 2 has unfortunately omitted many of the original game's DLC, which is disappointing as it had the potential to be showcased here. While the game shows promise as a stellar city builder, it would have been more enjoyable to have included features such as blimps. There is a possibility that the studio may release it as future DLC, but they have yet to make any announcements. This has left players pondering what these post-launch updates will entail, with some speculating that it may follow The Sims in that aspect. The absence of blimps in Cities: Skylines also takes away a unique transportation option and a distinctive aesthetic that the sequel lacks.
Currently, the art style of Cities: Skylines 2 appears rather lackluster with a predominant use of grays and blues. The inclusion of blimps could potentially inject some excitement into the landscape, if they are given the opportunity to do so. Furthermore, if the blimps were to be implemented, it would be fitting for the rest of the Mass Transit DLC to follow suit.

As a Gen Z fan of Cities: Skylines, I am disappointed by the exclusion of blimps in the sequel. The original game's Mass Transit DLC introduced blimps as a unique and enjoyable transportation option, and their absence in the sequel is a missed opportunity.
The blimps in the original game were not only a fun and distinctive way to transport citizens around the city, but they also added a touch of whimsy and charm to the game. The fact that they were not the most practical option for public transportation made them all the more special, as they allowed players to create cities that were both functional and visually appealing.
I hope that the developers of Cities: Skylines 2 will reconsider their decision and add blimps to the game in a future update. Their inclusion would be a welcome addition and would help to make the game even more enjoyable for fans.
