In fact, Murphy's initial collaboration with the director took place in 2005 for Batman Begins. Back then, Murphy was a relatively unknown actor and Nolan was just starting to make waves in the world of blockbuster filmmaking. Since then, Murphy has appeared in five more Nolan movies: The Dark Knight, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, Dunkirk, and Oppenheimer. Notably, in Oppenheimer, Murphy takes on his first leading role in one of Nolan's films.
The cast of Interstellar includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and Matt Damon as Murphy’s Oppenheimer co-star. If Murphy had replaced McConaughey as the leading man Cooper, Interstellar would have had a distinctively different feel.
