If The Garfield Movie follows the trends of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Garfield's trailer and other early criticism may not negatively impact the film's box office, but it will still undoubtedly be a source of mockery for Pratt.
The Garfield Movie is not the first upcoming animated film to parody Dune. Earlier this week, Kung Fu Panda 4 released a new teaser trailer that began with a sequence that was shot to look like Po was on Arrakis. In this “Sand & Spice” trailer, Po says “just the right amount of spice” as he chows down on some dumplings. Though the Kung Fu Panda 4 trailer is far more involved, the existence of these two crossovers shows just how much the buildup towards Dune: Part Two is permeating through the zeitgeist.
The Garfield Movie is already facing a significant amount of criticism, despite its release being several months away. Much of the backlash is directed towards its lead voice actor, Pratt, who has been heavily criticized for his frequent casting in prominent voice acting roles in movies such as The LEGO Movie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Garfield: The Movie. Pratt’s portrayal of Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie last year was particularly panned, with many pointing out that he failed to capture the essence of the original Mario voice actor, Charles Martinet.
Viewers who have seen The Garfield Movie trailer have expressed valid concerns about Pratt's ability to voice the iconic character. Similar to his portrayal of Mario, Pratt's rendition of Garfield seems to closely resemble his natural speaking voice, indicating a lack of effort to truly embody the character. While early criticism and skepticism may not necessarily impact the film's box office success, it is likely to serve as a subject of ridicule for Pratt.

Editor's P/S:
The upcoming crossover between "Garfield" and "Dune" has garnered mixed reactions, with some fans embracing the creative blend while others express concerns about the casting of Chris Pratt as Garfield. Pratt's previous voice roles have drawn criticism for lacking the distinctive qualities of the original characters, and his portrayal of Garfield appears to follow this trend.
Despite the skepticism, the poster's release highlights the growing anticipation for "Dune: Part Two." The parody trailers from "Kung Fu Panda 4" and "Garfield" demonstrate the film's influence on popular culture. While the early backlash may not affect the box office performance, it suggests that Pratt's casting will likely become a source of amusement and debate among audiences.
