Former foes, Choso unexpectedly intervenes to shield his younger brother Yuji from Pseudo-Geto. Here's the full scoop on the situation.
Nursing bitterness over Eso and Kechizu's unfortunate demises, Choso is determined to avenge them by targeting Yuji and Nobara. Aligning himself with the antagonists in Shibuya, his sole focus is retribution. While he previously showed disinterest in battling Gojo, his attitude changes when it comes to Yuji.
Upon encountering Yuji, Choso launches a relentless attack, easily overpowering the powerful foe. However, their confrontation takes an unexpected turn when Choso experiences a surprising flashback of Yuji with his siblings. Despite this revelation, there is no clear evidence in the Jujutsu Kaisen anime to support the idea that the two are actually related.
Choso, a Cursed Womb: Death Painting, appears to be fundamentally different from the ordinary human Yuji. While this seems unlikely, they do share a mysterious connection, prompting Choso to go to great lengths to assist his supposed younger brother. *Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen manga!*
Why Choso believes Yuji is his younger brother in Jujutsu Kaisen
Crunchyroll
His recollection of his siblings, including Yuji, enjoying themselves is false. Choso somehow feels the shift within his siblings and experiences Yuji's death through his own eyes, finally realizing they are brothers. Overwhelmed, he departs and reappears in Episode 22 of Season 2, declaring Yuji as his younger brother and vowing to defend him. Additionally, Choso accurately identifies Pseudo-Geto as Noritoshi Kamo, a notorious figure from the Kamo Clan's history, who lived more than a century and a half ago.
Choso and Yuji, despite their diverse backgrounds and differing birth eras, can be seen as half-brothers in an unconventional sense. Kenjaku, now controlling Geto's body, is an ancient curse user who has thrived for over a millennium due to his unique technique. He has the ability to transfer his consciousness into other bodies, obtaining their abilities in the process. Approximately 150 years ago, he inhabited Noritoshi Kamo's body and utilized Choso's mother to give birth to Choso and his siblings.
Several years ago, he took over the body of Kaori Itadori and brought Yuji into the world for unknown reasons. Despite not being biologically related, Choso and Yuji could easily be seen as brothers. As the eldest, Choso holds a deep love for all of his siblings, including JJK's protagonist.
Their bond grows stronger after the Shibuya Incident, with Choso becoming fiercely protective of Yuji. The manga depicts heartwarming moments between the two, as they lean on each other as the only family they have left. Choso has also joined forces with the sorcerers and is now fighting alongside them to save the world from the villains.

As a Gen Z fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, I find the brotherly connection between Choso and Yuji to be one of the most compelling aspects of the series. Despite their vastly different backgrounds and the fact that they are not biologically related, the bond they share is incredibly strong and heartwarming. Choso's unwavering love and protectiveness towards Yuji, even in the face of danger, is truly touching and adds a depth of emotion to the story.
The revelation that Choso and Yuji are not actually related by blood, but rather through a complex series of events involving Kenjaku's body-hopping and manipulation, adds an intriguing layer of complexity to their relationship. It highlights the power of found family and the strength of bonds formed through shared experiences and emotions, rather than solely through genetics. Choso's journey of self-discovery and his eventual acceptance of Yuji as his younger brother is a beautiful portrayal of the complexities of family and the human heart.
