Summary

Chicago PD stars Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos join the SAG-AFTRA picket line to fight for fair wages, staging an Upstead reunion.

Since Soffer's departure, fans have been frustrated and eagerly awaiting the return of Halstead's character in Chicago PD. The ongoing strikes may potentially delay the premiere of season 11 but could also be an opportunity for the show's writers to finally resolve the lingering storyline.

Chicago PD's Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton, portrayed by Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos respectively, have joined the SAG-AFTRA picket line to protest for fair wages. Despite weeks of ongoing protests, the activists are still going strong, attracting support from various celebrities. In addition to expressing their solidarity online, numerous One Chicago stars are now physically attending the protests. Soffer posted an image on his Instagram account showing himself and Spiridakos participating in the picket line, which resulted in a heartwarming Chicago PD Upstead reunion. Soffer has made a return to Chicago PD, but not as his character, instead as a director. He had the opportunity to be behind the camera for season 10's "Deadlocked," which focused on Hank Voight. While he contemplated a small and enjoyable cameo, he ultimately decided against it. Unfortunately, there is currently no news regarding when either Soffer or Halstead will make a comeback in Chicago PD, causing frustration among numerous fans.

While it's always a pleasure to see Soffer involved, long-time viewers of Chicago PD are more eager to see him back in front of the screen. Halstead's return is particularly essential due to his unresolved romance with Upton. Instead of properly concluding their relationship, NBC left it open-ended, with Halstead assuring that his army stint in Bolivia would only last about eight months. However, it has been narratively much longer since he left, and despite Upton's near-death experiences, there is still no solid indication that he will honor his promise and return to her.

With ongoing strikes from both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA, it's anticipated that many upcoming TV shows, including Chicago PD season 11, will face delays in their fall season premieres. Even series star LaRoyce Hawkins has acknowledged the realistic possibility of returning later than their usual yearly premiere. Once the industry-wide issue is finally resolved, it is hoped that Haas has gained inspiration from the Upstead storyline and can finally provide a satisfying resolution for the pair.
