Cher has requested temporary legal conservatorship of her adult son, Elijah Blue Allman, stating his alleged ongoing struggles with substance abuse. In a recent petition to the Los Angeles Superior Court, Cher seeks to be the sole conservator of her son's estate, citing his current inability to manage his assets due to severe mental health and substance abuse issues.
Elijah is supposed to receive regular distributions from the Trust, but due to his ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues, there are concerns that any funds given to him will be quickly used for drugs, leaving him with no assets to support himself and putting his life in danger, based on the documents. Cher, his mother, is worried about this. Elijah, who is 47 years old, is the son of Cher and her ex-husband, the late rocker Gregg Allman.
Gregg Allman and Cher were married from 1975 to 1979. Allman passed away in 2017 at the age of 69 due to complications from liver cancer.
Cher's petition indicates that her son will receive funds from a trust by the end of the year. It also mentions that the 77-year-old singer and actress has made significant efforts to ensure that her son, Elijah, receives the necessary treatment and support.
"Cher, the petitioner, has always prioritized Elijah's well-being and loves him deeply," according to the legal filing.
In October, Cher told People magazine, "I'm not facing any issues that millions of people in the United States aren't," in reference to her son's substance abuse.
"I'm a mother, and it's my responsibility to support and help my children," she said. "You'll do anything for your children. When you can help them, you just do it because that's what being a mother is all about. Despite the heartache, when you think of your children, it brings joy and love. You just smile and try to be there for them."
Cher is also the mother of Chaz Bono.
There is a scheduled hearing in March, according to court documents. CNN is currently investigating if Allman has legal representation. CNN has also contacted representatives for Cher for additional comments.
