Mauricio Pochettino expressed his satisfaction with the integration of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson into his Chelsea team, stating that he is "so happy" with their progress. However, he did acknowledge the possibility of adding another player to the forward department, remaining open to the idea. During the club's pre-season tour of the USA, Nkunku and Jackson have been alternating as strikers and have both scored goals in the successful Premier League Summer Series campaign.
They were both brought into the game during the second half of the match against Fulham. Nkunku played on the left side of the attacking trio, contributing to the team's 2-0 victory.
Although Jackson was acquired from Villarreal for a sum of £30.1m and Nkunku was brought in from RB Leipzig for £52m, Pochettino confirmed that Chelsea is still searching for a striker who can provide a unique skillset in the transfer market.
"We are striving to cultivate an organic connection between Nkunku and Jackson, fostering a strong camaraderie and shared experiences," he expressed regarding their relationship. "The synergy between them enhances their understanding of one another. It is essential for them to feel a sense of belonging within the team and the collective, as they spend considerable time together."
"It is crucial to begin the Premier League in a favorable state, with a solid understanding of one another and a collective determination to support each other, thereby building a cohesive team that is prepared to confront formidable opponents such as Liverpool, Manchester City, and other similar teams.
"Presently, I am pleased with the team's performance as they complement each other effectively. Admittedly, we are open to adding a diverse profile or player who can contribute to our cause, as it could certainly be beneficial."
I am delighted with the current situation, as we have promising young players such as Mason Burstow and Armando Broja recovering from a procedure in the UK.
In the upcoming weeks, we will thoroughly analyze the circumstances until the transfer window closes. Our ultimate goal is to make the best decision for the team.
Chelsea and Monaco have reached a preliminary agreement for the transfer of defender Axel Disasi, with the fee being approximately £38.6m. Pochettino, although not fully informed about the progress of the deal due to his focus on the fixtures in the United States, acknowledged the necessity of signing a center-back. This urgency is driven by Wesley Fofana's prolonged absence due to an ACL injury.
"With Fofana's injury, it is evident that we may need to strengthen this sector. It is crystal clear," he expressed.
"To me, it is imperative that the club puts in extensive effort to enhance all aspects and acquire suitable individuals to fortify the squad. The club is diligently striving to identify the ideal profile," he further commented.
