Chapter 9 of JoJoLands commences with Jodio receiving a phone call from his mother, Barbara Ann Joestar, expressing concern over Dragona's unresponsiveness. She queries their whereabouts, and Jodio reaffirms that he had informed her earlier that they would be spending the day on mainland Hawaii. He presents an explanation for Dragona's lack of response, causing Barbara Ann to express her hope that they are not associating with Paco Lovelantes, as she had heard rumors of his one-year stint in jail.
Offscreen, she asks him what they want for dinner. Jodio replies that he is currently busy and tells her to choose whatever she wants. Eventually, she decides on chicken burritos and instructs Jodio to confirm with Dragona. They end the call shortly after. Meanwhile, Paco asks Jodio about the person who had the bag containing dismembered cats.
In chapter 9 of JoJoLands, Paco suggests that the actions resemble those of the mafia or someone even lower. He believes that they are trying to convey their personal code and disregard for societal values by killing their own cats as a message. Paco also suspects that they have been under surveillance all along, which Jodio believes is likely the case for Rohan Kishibe as well.
Paco queries whether Jodio believes that the Lava Rock was possessed by the individual who is currently stalking them, which prompts Jodio to recollect the existence of a map on Rohan's iPad. Jodio recalls that the map depicted a location in Hawaii with a distinctive marker. He deduces that this location holds significance in relation to the rock, possibly serving as its point of origin or source.
In JoJoLands chapter 9, Jodio suggests calling back Usagi Aloha'oe and Dragona from the watch store, but Paco believes returning the Lava Rock is the more pressing issue. He argues that they should fulfill their original task of returning the diamond and then deal with the Lava Rock. Jodio disagrees, urging Paco to make a decision so they can progress.
Jodio maintains that Rohan is the rightful owner of the Lava Rock since he was investigating its properties before it was stolen. Additionally, if someone was observing Rohan's study of the rock, it implies that they are also unaware of its capabilities and therefore have no rightful claim to it. Jodio also reminds Paco of his promise to Rohan to destroy the Lava Rock and dispose of it in the sea if escape from the island proves impossible. Similarly, the attacker should also exercise caution to prevent losing the Lava Rock.
In JoJoLands chapter 9, Rohnan Kishibe's warnings to Jodio prove to be true. Jodio insists that their assailant will also snatch the diamond and warns that if this person truly belongs to the mafia, they will eliminate any witnesses. Concluding their statement, Jodio acknowledges their unfortunate predicament and emphasizes the urgency of reaching a decision in order to progress further.
The scene shifts to inside the watch store, where Dragona and Usagi are emptying their pockets and bags for the shopkeeper to inspect. The shopkeeper questions where they might have hidden the watch, while Dragona ponders its whereabouts. She also wonders why only one of the watches disappeared when she touched all four to the Lava Rock, suggesting that there may be something unique about that particular watch.
In JoJoLands chapter 9, the shopkeeper attempts to call the police, but Dragona and Usagi prevent it by pointing out that they are technically being unlawfully detained. The shopkeeper then claims that they can leave whenever they please, as long as they review the footage from the four cameras in the room, stating that their theft will be exposed in the same way.
In JoJoLands chapter 9, Dragona Joestar's use of the Lava Rock lands both her and Usagi Aloha'oe in a precarious situation. The pair amusingly express their curiosity to witness what transpired, leading the shopkeeper to rewind the footage to the moment when the watch disappeared. Surprisingly, the recording unveils that Dragona seemingly concealed the watch within her bracelet before swiftly removing it from the table. Although she claims to have no recollection of this act, Dragona examines the charm on her chest and discovers the watch securely attached to the Lava Rock.
In Chapter 9 of JoJoLands, it is revealed that Smooth Operators had moved the watch without her memory of doing so. The shopkeeper suggests a full body search on Dragona, but only the Lava Rock is found in her charm. Dragona expresses concern over the whereabouts of the watch, until it is discovered tangled in the shopkeeper's shoelaces.
As the shopkeeper apologizes to Usagi and Dragona, the watch starts to slide on the ground but is eventually caught. Deciding to leave, Usagi and Dragona discuss how the watch will eventually find its way back to the Lava Rock and Dragona. They believe that the Lava Rock uses people's emotions and connections to attract and return valuable items to its owner(s).

In this chapter, Jodio and Paco realize they must contact Usagi and Dragona. Surprisingly, another Paco arrives, apologizing for the delay in bringing food for them. The duplicate Paco then notices his original self standing alongside Jodio, and begins disintegrating as if a Stand power is being deactivated.
In review
The shocking truth is unveiled as Jodio realizes that the Paco he has been conversing with is an imposter. Regret floods over them as they lament their earlier decision of not returning the Lava Rock when they had the chance. The chapter reaches a chilling climax when the unknown attacker suddenly brandishes a knife, swiftly slashing at Jodio's throat.
JoJoLands chapter 9 demonstrates exceptional writing in various aspects, with particular emphasis on the disclosure of the Lava Rock's mechanisms. Although Dragona's conclusion is presented as a mere theory, it effectively portrays Araki's intention of elucidating the inner workings of the Lava Rock. Moreover, the revelation and practicality of this object are both ingenious and adaptable, making it a versatile element that can shape the course of the series in numerous ways.
The reveal of the counterfeit Paco is equally well-crafted, offering a compelling explanation for the apparent conflict in intentions between him and Jodio throughout the issue. This revelation further connects with Barbara Ann's initial cautionary statement, resulting in a captivating narrative that is as impressive as it is captivating.
In summation
Overall, JoJoLands chapter 9 is an exciting addition to the series, which sets up the next major Stand fight in the series.
However, since Jodio appears to be temporarily unavailable, it is likely that Paco will have the opportunity to shine and demonstrate to readers the capabilities of The Hustle in a confrontational setting.
