Celine Dion shared that she prefers to purchase her own clothing rather than borrowing from designers without paying for them.
In an interview with Vogue France on April 22, she mentioned, “I have always bought everything myself. I didn’t want to borrow. It’s a form of respect. People pay to come and hear me sing, so I pay to buy myself clothes by designers.”
The singer shared that her personal policy stems partially from her humble upbringing. She recalled how her mother would mend her tights, sweaters, coats, and mittens throughout her life. Growing up with 13 siblings, she considered herself fortunate to receive hand-me-downs from all of them.
At 56 years old, the Grammy winner emphasized that she has diligently worked for everything she owns. This includes not only designer clothes but also homes for both herself and her family members.
As Dion achieved more success in her career, she started to get invited to fashion shows. One particular Karl Lagerfeld show stands out in her memory.

In an interview with Vogue France, Celine Dion shared that Karl Lagerfeld once compared her to the legendary soprano singer Maria Callas from the mid-twentieth century. She fondly remembered how Lagerfeld told her, “You remind me of La Callas.” Dion also mentioned how she indulged in purchasing a Lagerfeld jacket as a special treat, equating it to how some people buy themselves diamonds.
In the same interview, Dion also shared how she has been dealing with stiff person syndrome since being diagnosed in 2022. This rare autoimmune neurological disorder causes muscle stiffness and spasms.
She mentioned, "I haven't overcome the disease. It remains a part of me and always will. I am hopeful that a cure will be discovered through scientific research, but for now, I must learn to live with it." Dion also expressed her initial thoughts of questioning why this happened to her and if it was her fault. Life, however, did not provide any answers.
