Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor have announced their decision to separate after filming for The Valley wrapped up. However, fans will get to witness how this decision unfolded. Brittany, who is 35 years old, shared the official trailer for the Vanderpump Rules spinoff series on Instagram on Monday, March 11. In the comments section, a social media user suggested that the issues between Brittany and Jax seen in the trailer were just for promotional purposes, as the couple was shown arguing multiple times.
Brittany responded, "I'm pretty sure the trailer we filmed 6 months ago shows exactly why I am where I am now. This is not a promo for any show, this is my life! Enough with that!"
Viewers first met Jax, 44, and Brittany on Vanderpump Rules. Jax was part of the original cast when the show started in 2013, and Brittany joined in 2015. The show captured their relationship highs and lows, including a cheating scandal, before they got married on screen in 2019. A year later, they announced they were leaving Vanderpump Rules.
After stepping back from the public eye, Jax and Brittany, who have a 2-year-old son named Cruz, joined forces with former Vanderpump Rules star Kristen Doute on a new project called The Valley.
In a recent episode of their podcast "When Reality Hits," Brittany mentioned, "We may have taken a break, but there's still plenty of drama in our lives. The Valley is definitely going to be full of drama. Kristen really knows how to bring the excitement."
Jax mentioned that he was surprised by how quickly The Valley became popular. He initially thought there would be less drama compared to Vanderpump Rules, but it turned out to be just as dramatic, if not more so.
Even after filming ended, Jax observed that the drama in The Valley has not stopped and continues to unfold.
Since we began filming, a lot has happened. It's hard to believe the cameras won't be here anymore. There's just so much going on," he said. Brittany also chimed in, wondering how "crazy" their reunion would be. "I bet they'll need some security at the reunion taping."
In the following weeks, Brittany and Jax responded to rumors about their marriage.
Brittany addressed some rumors on their podcast, acknowledging that marriage can be challenging and people go through ups and downs. She emphasized the importance of respecting privacy while also recognizing the normalcy of needing space at times.
Jax remained silent during the conversation about ups and downs. Brittany clarified that their life is not a publicity stunt, pointing out that filming for The Valley took place months ago. She expressed excitement for the show's release and highlighted the significant changes that have occurred in every couple's lives, emphasizing that there are no publicity stunts involved.
Jax and Brittany have recently decided to take a break from their marriage.
Brittany addressed their relationship status on their podcast, saying, "Many of you have been asking about Jax and me. We feel it's important to be open and honest with you because we've shared so much of our lives with you. I want to be truthful and transparent, so I need to share this with you."
Brittany mentioned that the couple were dealing with some problems.
She went on to say, "I wanted to be open with you because there are so many rumors online. Marriages can be really difficult and I had a tough year. Jax and I have decided to spend some time apart. To take care of my mental well-being, I chose to move to a different place. I don't want to go into too much detail at the moment because it's still a sensitive topic for me."
Brittany shared in Monday's trailer for The Valley that she feels Jax isn't attracted to her and they never have sex. Jax upset Brittany in another scene by telling her she can't express any emotions.
The Valley will debut on Bravo on Tuesday, March 19, at 9 p.m. ET.
