Brittany Cartwright candidly discusses the hurdles she faces as a mother, providing an insightful update on her son's speech therapy journey

Brittany Cartwright is opening up about the trials and tribulations of being a mother.

In an episode of her podcast "When Reality Hits" on Friday, November 3, the 34-year-old Cartwright addressed a question regarding the highs and lows of parenting.

I absolutely adore being a mother, something I've always known I wanted. It is truly the most incredible experience I've ever had. Navigating my child's speech delay has been the most challenging aspect of my parenting journey. However, we are incredibly fortunate that he is happy and healthy. He is a remarkably intelligent, resilient, and joyful little boy. We realize how fortunate and blessed we are, as we are aware that others face far more difficult hardships, and our hearts go out to them.

Cartwright became emotional when she mentioned the setback, specifically expressing her disappointment in not hearing certain words from Cruz yet.

"However, the most challenging aspect for us personally has been dealing with the speech therapy. I have a strong desire for him to communicate with me, to express his desires and emotions," she continued. "Unfortunately, we haven't reached that point yet, and I eagerly anticipate the day he looks at me and says, 'I love you.' It's an incredibly emotional thought, and I can't help but anticipate shedding tears of joy."

Cartwright went on to praise her son for the progress he has already made in speech therapy.

She expressed the desire for perfection when it comes to her children. She acknowledged the difficulty of not being able to immediately solve problems, but praised her child's progress in speech therapy. Looking ahead, she shared excitement for his upcoming enrollment in school in January, where he will have the opportunity to interact with other children and benefit from a structured learning environment. She believes this will be a fantastic experience for him.

In September 2020, the Vanderpump Rules alum made the exciting announcement of her pregnancy and welcomed her first child, Cruz, the following year. Recently, while documenting her son's milestones, Cartwright openly discussed his speech delay for the first time.

Addressing the issue on her podcast in September, Cartwright shared, "Talking about Cruz's speech delay hasn't been easy for us because we don't want any judgment on our family. However, I feel the need to talk about it due to the numerous comments and questions we've received about Cruz's progress in speaking." She further added, "Cruz is indeed talking and has managed to say certain words. However, he does have a slight speech delay, so we have enrolled him in speech therapy, and he is making remarkable progress."

She went on to say, "He has two weekly sessions with his teacher and we have already begun early intervention. He is absolutely amazing. No matter what challenges come our way, we will tackle them together as a family."

Cartwright strongly objected to the negative remarks she has received regarding Cruz, exclaiming, "He simply hasn't developed his verbal skills yet. He is just a 2-year and 3-month-old child, so please allow us some room. Let him enjoy his childhood."

After departing from the Bravo series in 2020, Cartwright made a conscious choice to leverage her platform to assist fellow mothers.

"It can be quite hurtful when people inquire about my son. Frankly, it's none of your concern," she asserted. "I simply wanted to inform other parents facing similar experiences that speech therapy has proven beneficial."
