On Monday, US Central Command declared that an ISIS official was apprehended by the US military in a helicopter assault that took place in northern Syria on Saturday. The release by CENTCOM detailed that Abu Halil al-Fadani, an ISIS Syria Operational and Facilitation official, was successfully captured during the raid. It was further stated that al-Fadani was believed to have extensive connections within the ISIS network in that area.
No civilians were harmed during the raid, as stated in the release.
"Our ability to locate, target, and eliminate terrorists from the battlefield is enhanced by capturing ISIS officials like al-Fadani," stated Lt. Col. Troy Garlock, spokesperson for CENTCOM, in the release. "USCENTCOM remains unwavering in our commitment to achieving the ultimate defeat of ISIS."
CENTCOM forces and coalition partners carried out eight joint operations in Syria in August, resulting in the arrest of seven ISIS members and the death of one. In Iraq, 18 operatives were apprehended, and six were eliminated during operations conducted in August. Additionally, a notable ISIS attack facilitator named Hudayfah al Yemeni and two accomplices were apprehended in a helicopter raid that took place in Syria back in April.
The US has roughly 900 troops in Syria as part of the ongoing mission to defeat ISIS.
