Manchester United will commence pre-season training without the presence of Mason Greenwood. However, a verdict regarding his future is anticipated prior to the commencement of the upcoming Premier League season. As outlined in the club's directive in February, the 21-year-old is prohibited from participating in training sessions and matches until an internal investigation is concluded. This investigation was initiated following the Crown Prosecution Service's discontinuation of their case against Greenwood for charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, and assault resulting in actual bodily harm.
United made an announcement on January 30th of the previous year stating that the player would not resume training or participate in any matches "until further notice".
Additionally, Nike initially suspended and later terminated their sponsorship agreement with Greenwood. Furthermore, Electronic Arts confirmed that he had been taken out of active squads in their FIFA 22 game.
The player hails from Bradford and developed his skills in the United academy. He marked his debut at the senior level during a triumphant Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain in March 2019.
In September 2020, he represented England in a Nations League match, earning one senior cap.
