Diablo 4 begins its post-launch content with Season of the Malignant. Players may already anticipate the arrival of Season 2. The first season, commencing on July 20, introduces six Uniques, seven Legendary Aspects, and the new Malignant Hearts mechanic. Similar to Legendary Gems from Diablo 3, Malignant Hearts provide thrilling situational bonuses when equipped to jewelry items.
Although Diablo 4 lacks certain quality-of-life features like leaderboards, inventory management, world boss timers, as well as an easy way to reset Paragon Boards and Talent Trees, players remain optimistic about its combat and open world possibilities. Season of the Malignant aims to unlock some of this potential, yet many fans argue that the most exciting features will arrive in Season 2.
During the Diablo 4 livestream where Season of the Malignant debuted, observant players noticed countdowns on certain developer-shared images. One image displayed 98 days, while the other displayed 102 days. If these dates are intended for the start of Season 1, then Season 2 would likely begin on October 26, 2023. The strongest evidence supporting this date was revealed by Blizzard on July 11, when the new Gameplay Guides video disclosed the official end date of Season 1 as October 9.
Blizzard had already stated that a Diablo 4 season would typically last a minimum of three months, with a two-week break in between, in line with the seasonal rotation in Reaper of Souls. However, considering the possibility of interpreting the images from the livestream literally, an alternative date for Season 2 could be October 12. Although the new patch launches on July 18, Season of the Malignant in Diablo 4 commences only two days later, suggesting that an October 12 release for Season 2 is indeed feasible.
Players can anticipate improvements to the currently flawed Resistance attribute in Diablo 4, addressing one of the game's major weaknesses tied to itemization and the Sorcerer class. These enhancements should contribute in resolving the issue to some extent. Additionally, Season 2 will convert gems into crafted materials, enabling players to free up significant space in their personal inventory and stash. Whether Season 2 commences on October 12 or October 26, fans will have approximately 12 weeks to immerse themselves in the Season of the Malignant. Diablo 4 is accessible on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
