In a recent episode of Rachel Bilson's "Broad Ideas" podcast, Bobby Lee, star of "And Just Like That," revealed that working with Sarah Jessica Parker played a significant role in his journey towards sobriety. Recounting a horrifying incident in Hawaii where he was blackout drunk, Lee shared how his agent called to inform him that he was needed in New York. This experience, coupled with his inability to comprehend the script due to his intoxicated state, served as a catalyst for his decision to become sober.
Lee, who has maintained sobriety for a year and a half, expressed, "It was a dreadful experience. I distinctly recall vowing that it would never recur. It's truly incredible how our affliction takes over, you know. It could have easily derailed my career."
Bilson, aged 41, inquired if Parker, aged 58, was aware of the situation during the filming process. In response, Lee stated, "No, she was departing for France the following day, so I had to continue filming."
Lee stars as Jackie, a friend of Carrie's on the Sex and the City spinoff. He appears in both seasons of the show. The second season of AJLT premiered in June, with new episodes airing on Thursdays on Max. Along with the introduction of new characters like Jackie, familiar faces such as John Corbett and Kim Cattrall will also be returning. Corbett will reprise his role as Carrie's former flame Aidan Shaw, while Cattrall will reprise her role as Samantha Jones for one episode.
"It was a great idea to celebrate our 25th anniversary with a surprise appearance by Samantha," Parker said in a June interview with Good Morning America. "The content of the episode is still a secret."
Parker previously mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter in 2022 that there were no discussions with Cattrall, 66, about joining the cast before its December 2021 premiere.
"We didn't invite her to be a part of this because she clearly expressed that it wasn't something she wanted to pursue. It became uncomfortable for us, so it didn't even cross our minds," she explained. "You have to respect someone's words when they publicly express their preferences and indicate that it's not a place they want to be, a character they want to portray, or an environment they want to be in. As you get older, you learn to acknowledge and accept that."
Cattrall announced in June 2023 that she would make a cameo in season 2, despite her supposed feud with Parker. She did not appear in the show's first season. During an appearance on The View, Cattrall shared that it was interesting to receive a call from the head of HBO, asking what they could do. She took it as an opportunity to get creative and decided to come back with Samantha's signature style, pushing the boundaries. And they succeeded.
Fans are eager for Cattrall's appearance, but AJLT star Cynthia Nixon advises managing expectations. "I'm concerned that after all the hype, people might be disappointed. It's crucial to understand that it's just a very short, minor cameo," Nixon, 57, revealed to London's The Times in July.
