Blizzard is currently addressing a UI issue in Diablo 4 Season 1 that has led to unintended activation of the Battle Pass for many players. This issue was brought to light by a streamer who accidentally activated their battle pass while attempting to access their season progress in Diablo 4 Season of the Malignant.
The inclusion of a Battle Pass in Diablo 4 is a new addition to the series, as previous games did not have live-service features. By purchasing the Battle Pass, players gain access to currency that can be used to acquire cosmetics, special items, and Season Boosts that provide faster experience points for leveling up other characters. However, the streamer's feedback has led to Blizzard addressing the problematic design of the Seasonal screen that caused this unintended activation of the Battle Pass.
Streamer Rurikhan shared a video on Twitter attempting to check their Seasonal progress in Diablo 4, but accidentally activated the Battle Pass due to its placement directly beneath the Season Journey tab. Unfortunately, their game crashed immediately, but upon restarting, they found that the Battle Pass was already activated, much to their frustration. Fortunately, Adam Fletcher, the director of Diablo 4’s global community development, responded to the issue and assured that developers have addressed it and are working on a temporary solution.
This issue seems to primarily affect console players, as the Seasonal tab automatically highlights the "Activate Premium" button, triggering the Battle Pass. Many players in the comments agreed with Rurikhan's description of the button placement as "Malicious Design." Streamer Rhykker explained that this user interface element, intended to deceive players, is referred to as a "dark pattern," and proposed that adding a purchase confirmation pop-up would resolve the issue. Additionally, Rurikhan suggested the inclusion of a temporary Battle Pass reset button, although they were unsure if Blizzard could implement it in Diablo 4 Season 1 itself.
Fans of Diablo 4 have been expressing their dissatisfaction with the game's user interface (UI) since the open-beta phase. Many players felt that the initial design and font did not align well with the game's setting. Even after the full launch, criticism of the UI has persisted, especially regarding the changes introduced in the Season 1 update. In response to community feedback, Blizzard has announced that they are implementing several changes in the post-Season 1 patch to address these issues.
Diablo 4 is accessible on various platforms, including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
