Jack Antonoff is discussing the inspiration behind Bleachers' new album, and Joe Alwyn is not among them. "There's a group of people who will be quite let down when they hear this," Antonoff, 39, joked in a Guardian profile published on Friday, November 24, when questioned about the creation of the song "Hey Joe."

Earlier this month, Antonoff revealed the tracklist for his self-titled album via X (formerly Twitter). This led to fan speculation that the song "Hey Joe" was about 32-year-old Alwyn, who is Taylor Swift's most recent ex-boyfriend. Alwyn has collaborated frequently with Antonoff on Swift's albums.

Antonoff's social media post about the album, set to release in March 2024, coincided with a meeting with Alwyn. Both attended the 2023 GQ Men of the Year Awards, where the Grammy-winning producer was being honored.

During his interview with The Guardian, Antonoff debunked the rumors and disclosed the true inspiration behind the track. He explained that it was a reflection on his father and his friends navigating the Ho Chi Minh trail in their 60s, with a grin on his face as he referenced the Vietnamese city.

Additionally, Antonoff disclosed that his marriage to Margaret Qualley has also influenced the new Bleachers record. The "Modern Girl" singer tied the knot with Qualley, 29, in August during a lavish ceremony in his home state of New Jersey.

At 20, my mind was in turmoil. Looking back, I realize that if my instincts said no, I should have listened. I never had someone who only gave me positive responses," he shared, reflecting on how Qualley shifted his views on love. "I've been reluctant to make changes in my life because of how it might impact my career."

He continued, "The most incredible feeling is wishing true happiness for someone. It's not straightforward - it's complicated, unconventional, and exhilarating - yet it's also surprisingly uncomplicated."

Antonoff is brimming with pride about the latest Bleachers record, a feeling he expressed when talking about his work with Swift, 33. (They first collaborated on her 2014 album, 1989.)

Antonoff told The Guardian that some people didn't understand it at the time, and he was thinking, "If you don't get this, then I don't know how to help you because this is amazing." He was specifically referring to Swift's 1989 and Reputation.

After starting to date Swift in 2016, Alwyn became part of their creative circle. Using the pen name William Bowery, the Conversations With Friends alum cowrote multiple songs on her albums Folklore, Evermore, and Midnights. Despite their split in April, Swift has moved on with NFL star Travis Kelce.
