Disney has made significant changes to the release calendar of Marvel Cinematic Universe's upcoming films, which includes Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Marvel Studios has rescheduled the entire slate for Phases 5 and 6, causing a delay of up to a year for the return of beloved characters to the big screen, such as Kang the Conqueror. The sudden shift in release dates has come as a shock to many MCU fans who were eagerly awaiting the return of Jonathan Majors' powerful character in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The delay also means that fans will have to wait longer to witness the introduction of fan-favorite characters like Blade and the Fantastic Four to the MCU.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, Blade, and Fantastic Four are among the major upcoming MCU projects that have been rescheduled in the release calendar. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, originally set to release on May 2, 2025, has been pushed back to May 1, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars, which was initially slated for May 7, 2027, will now replace Avengers: The Kang Dynasty's original release date. Captain America: Brave New World has been moved from May 3, 2024, to July 26, 2024, while Thunderbolts will now premiere on December 20, 2024. Blade's release date has been shifted to February 14, 2025, and Fantastic Four will now hit theatres on May 2, 2025.
Disney has made some major changes to their film release schedule, including moving up Deadpool 3 from November 8, 2024, to May 3, 2024, which means that fans can expect to see Hugh Jackman return as Wolverine sooner than anticipated. However, fans eagerly awaiting the upcoming Avatar films will have to exercise patience, as the release dates for the next three movies have been pushed back several years. Avatar 3 is now set for release on December 19, 2025, Avatar 4 will hit theaters on December 21, 2029, and Avatar 5 won't be released until December 19, 2031, a full eight years after Avatar 4. On a brighter note, Star Wars fans can look forward to a new film joining the franchise on December 18, 2026, while two other Star Wars movies are currently scheduled for release on May 22, 2026, and December 17, 2027. While it's still unknown which characters or plots the new Star Wars movies will focus on, it's a welcome development for fans amid the many delays affecting other projects.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars is now scheduled to release on May 7, 2027.
