The upcoming sequel to Frozen, Frozen 3, is currently in the works. However, it has been confirmed that the original franchise director, Jennifer Lee, will not be directing the film. Frozen tells the story of the evolving relationship between Anna and Elsa, with Elsa possessing the ability to control ice and snow. The franchise has been highly successful for Disney, becoming their most acclaimed and profitable series, with each film earning over $1 billion at the box office. In fact, Frozen 2 holds the record for the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, bringing in approximately $1.45 billion. Disney announced the development of Frozen 3 in February 2023, but specific details about the plot have not yet been revealed. At the Annecy Animation Festival, Jennifer Lee disclosed that she will not be returning as the director for the upcoming sequel. However, she will still be involved in a creative capacity, possibly serving as an advisor or mentor.
All the decisions regarding "Frozen 3" are being driven by the talented artists in our studio. The direction we are taking with the film did not originate from me, but rather from an extraordinary individual. This is a fresh revelation that I have not shared with anyone yet, and I am genuinely amazed by it. Working with this team has been an absolute joy and I am thoroughly enjoying the process.
