Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker gave a commencement address at Benedictine College. Many people in the crowd gave him a standing ovation, but Susannah Leisegang did not stand up.

Leisegang, a recent graduate at 21 years old, shared on TikTok that she and a few other women booed Butker during his speech.

"It was really terrible," she mentioned in her video. "My roommate and I were among the few who booed. Everyone else in the room gave a standing ovation, except for us and about 10 to 15 other women."

Butker, who is 28 years old, faced backlash for his speech. He spoke against LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, expressed his opinion that women should stay at home, and criticized President Joe Biden's views on abortion rights.

Leisegang explained that the college was Catholic and conservative, so many of the men were very excited about it.

In his speech, Butker encouraged the men to embrace their masculinity without apology. He also expressed his belief that while some women may pursue successful careers, many are most looking forward to marriage and starting a family.

Leisegang observed that during the speech, most of the women appeared confused and exchanged looks with each other, wondering if Butker's focus was solely on politics and his opinions on women.

Leisegang, a Denver native and former member of the Benedictine track team, recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. She is looking forward to starting her new job at a nationwide magazine company, where she will be working on the design and photography team.

She expressed her excitement about the opportunities her career will bring and clarified that she is not interested in being a homemaker at the moment. Leisegang emphasized that getting married and having kids is not her current priority.

Butker mentioned that his wife, Isabelle, who he married in 2018, believes that her life truly began when she embraced her roles as a wife and mother. The couple has two children.

The kicker’s own mother, Elizabeth Butker, is an accomplished physicist at Emory University.

Leisegang expressed that graduation felt less special because of being told he's just a homemaker.

Since the speech, several celebrities, such as Flavor Flav, have shared their thoughts. Flavor Flav mentioned that some people should stick to their own expertise and avoid giving commencement speeches.

In a statement to People magazine, NFL senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer Jonathan Beane clarified that Harrison Butker's speech was his own personal opinion. Beane emphasized that the NFL remains dedicated to promoting inclusion, as it is believed to enhance the overall strength of the league.
