Top Hollywood celebrities brought their A-game to the 2023 Gotham Awards in New York City, organized by the Gotham Film & Media Institute on November 27th at Cipriani Wall Street. The event honored standout films like Barbie and Killers of the Flower Moon, as well as indie favorites like Past Lives and Anatomy of a Fall, with special tributes and major awards.
Melton, 32, was named the winner of the Outstanding Supporting Performance award for his role in May December, and his costar Portman, 42, wasted no time in celebrating his achievement. An onlooker exclusively tells We that she was incredibly proud and animated after Melton's win.
The highlight of the event, however, was De Niro's powerful speech as he presented the Gotham Historical Icon & Creator Tribute to Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon. On stage, the 80-year-old declared, "History isn't history anymore. Truth is not truth. Even facts are being replaced by alternative facts, driven by conspiracy theories and ugliness."
De Niro insisted that his comments were "manipulated" without his consent, but that didn't stop him from denouncing former President Donald Trump's "falsehoods." The insider reported that De Niro was visibly upset about the teleprompter error. Keep reading for additional behind-the-scenes information from the 2023 Gotham Awards.
