Brian Wilson, a musician and founding member of The Beach Boys, was recently placed under a conservatorship by a Los Angeles court ruling. Judge Gus T. May from the Los Angeles Superior Court stated that there was "clear and convincing evidence" to support the need for the conservatorship. Wilson has given his consent to this arrangement.
Wilson has been deemed incapable of caring for himself according to court documents. He has been diagnosed with a "Major Neurocognitive Disorder" and is unable to give informed consent for medical treatments.
The court has instructed Wilson's conservators to involve his children in all significant healthcare decisions, as stated in the court documents.
The Wilson family decided to place Brian under a conservatorship after his wife, Melinda Wilson, passed away in January. Brian referred to his late wife as his “anchor” and expressed on his website that she was not just his wife, but also his savior. Melinda provided him with emotional support that allowed him to pursue his career and encouraged him to create music that truly resonated with him.

The Wilson family announced in February that Brian Wilson, his children, his housekeeper, and his doctors have decided that LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers will be serving as co-conservators of Brian's well-being. This decision was made after careful consideration and consultation following the passing of Melinda.
The decision was made to ensure that there will be no major changes to the household. Brian and the children living at home will be taken care of and remain in the home where they are looked after by (housekeeper) Gloria Ramos and the dedicated team who have been helping the family for many years.
Brian will have the opportunity to spend time with his family and friends, work on his projects, and participate in any activities of his choice.
Wilson has had a challenging history with fame, experiencing stress, depression, and drug addiction as a result. In 1964, he stopped touring with his band due to a nervous breakdown, but he remained involved in writing, arranging, producing, and recording The Beach Boys' music.
In recognition of their musical contributions, Wilson and The Beach Boys were honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.
Wilson has also won two Grammy Awards as a solo artist, for Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 2005 and Best Historical Album in 2013.
