BBC Journalists Brave Terrifying Ordeal: Held at Gunpoint by Israeli Police, Network Reveals

BBC journalists attacked and threatened by Israeli police while reporting on the conflict with Hamas in Tel Aviv

The BBC reported on Friday that Israeli police in Tel Aviv held a group of their journalists at gunpoint and assaulted them while they were covering the war between Israel and Hamas. The incident took place on Thursday night when the three journalists, traveling in a clearly marked media vehicle, were on their way to their hotel.

The team was forcibly pulled out of their vehicle, searched, and forcefully pressed against a wall by the authorities, as reported by the BBC. A journalist from the team further mentioned that when he attempted to document the incident, an officer aggressively threw his phone on the ground.

In response to the incident, a spokesperson from the BBC emphasized the importance of journalists being able to freely report on the Israel-Gaza conflict. This statement was provided to CNN.

The Israeli police spokesperson did not respond immediately to the comment request.

Israel is now under scrutiny for firing artillery into southern Lebanon, resulting in the death of a Reuters videographer and injuring six other journalists.

The journalists present on that occasion were dressed in jackets that clearly labeled them as members of the press. While the Israel Defense Forces confirmed the firing of artillery into Lebanon on Friday, they remain silent on any inquiries regarding the victims.
