The cookbook author revealed in March that she and the NBA player were expecting. In a cover story with her Sweet July magazine, Ayesha shared the reason behind the couple's decision to have another child.
"I used to pack the car and realize I forgot something," she said. "But nobody was left behind. It made me wonder if someone was missing. And so, we embarked on this journey, believing that this new addition would make our family whole."
Stephen and Ayesha got married in July 2011 and later had their first daughter, Riley, in July 2012, followed by daughter Ryan in July 2015, and son Canon in July 2018.
Even though Ayesha had been pregnant three times before, her fourth pregnancy was different from the rest.

In my 30s, I have to deal with a lot of paperwork that labels my pregnancy as 'geriatric' and brings up various concerns. I believe there should be a more thoughtful approach when discussing women's age and the decision to have children. Many women in their 30s and 40s are experiencing this for the first time, and being called 'old' can be shocking and unsettling.
When it comes to how my children see my pregnancy, I have noticed that they are old enough to understand the process better. Each of them is at a different stage in life, with unique perspectives on the situation. It has been incredibly exciting to see their reactions and thoughts.
After Ayesha confirmed she was coming soon, Stephen shared her baby bump picture on Instagram with the caption, "Vol. 4 ❤️."
In May 2021, Ayesha looked back on beginning her family in her early 20s. She shared that marrying Stephen at that time always felt like the right choice, but it also meant she had to make many important decisions about her life.
Ayesha shared on the “Skimm’d From the Couch” podcast that she realized she was taking on the role of a grown woman at a young age, while others her age were still in college or exploring their identities. She found herself getting married and starting a family, leading her to question her true interests and identity. She had spent her life trying to fit into molds of other people, leaving her unsure of her own likes and true self.
Despite feeling fulfilled as a mother, Ayesha believed she could balance parenthood with a career. This belief was validated as she found success in her culinary ventures.

The couple's journey to parenthood has not been without its challenges, particularly for Ayesha, who faced the stigma and concerns associated with being pregnant in her 30s. Her experience highlights the need for a more sensitive and nuanced approach to discussing women's age and reproductive choices.
Moreover, Ayesha's reflections on her early marriage and motherhood shed light on the unique challenges and opportunities faced by young women who choose to start families at a younger age. While she has found fulfillment in her role as a mother, she also recognizes the importance of balancing her own interests and identity. Her story is a reminder that motherhood is not a one-size-fits-all experience and that women should feel empowered to make choices that are right for them.
