Melissa Benoist, who portrayed Supergirl in the Arrowverse, has expressed interest in reprising her role in the new DCU.

The Arrowverse, a highly successful interconnected franchise, concluded with The Flash's final season. While there was no crossover between the Arrowverse and the mainline DCU, it would be beneficial to consider hiring experienced actors from the Arrowverse to ensure the success of the new DCU.

As the new DCU, as outlined by James Gunn and Peter Safran, approaches completion, Melissa Benoist, the star of Supergirl, has expressed her interest in joining the new DCU. She has commented on the possibility of reprising her role from the small-screen DC continuity on a larger stage.

The Arrowverse, which began with the show Arrow in 2012, is a media franchise and shared universe that includes various comic book characters and properties from DC Comics and its imprints, including Supergirl. Over time, the franchise has naturally come together, with each show reaching its conclusion. The final season of The Flash served as the ultimate farewell to the Arrowverse, with Stephen Amell and many others from Arrow returning to bid farewell to the franchise.

Since then, many Arrowverse admirers have earnestly desired the possibility of James Gunn, who now heads DC's Film division alongside Peter Safran, incorporating some of the assets, storylines, or stars that the Arrowverse introduced to fans. Actress Benoist, known for her portrayal of Supergirl in six seasons of her show and numerous crossover events, has openly expressed her interest in reprising the role. In a video on her Cameo page, she pondered, "Who knows if I may put on the suit again? We’ll see. I have one that I sneakily took when we ended the show. Don’t tell anyone. This is a secret. A big one, actually. But yeah, I do have a suit in my attic, and I would love to play the character again. We’ll see what happens.”

Cameo is a platform where celebrities across various fields can connect with fans. Many stars, such as wrestling legend Ric Flair, have earned significant amounts of money by creating personalized video messages for their fans on this platform. In one such message, Benoist hinted at her interest in reprising her role. She also expressed her joy in hearing about her fans and her experience working on the show. "I'm thrilled to know that you're a fan of the show and my character," Benoist commented. "I truly enjoy portraying Supergirl. It's amazing to hear that you grew up watching the shows. They were incredibly enjoyable to work on."

Other actors from the Arrowverse, like Grant Gustin, have also expressed their interest in becoming part of the main DC Extended Universe (DCU). However, there has been minimal crossover between the two, even after the leadership change with the Gunn/Safran administration. This apparent lack of collaboration led Arrowverse co-creator Marc Guggenheim to confess that he felt like his time invested in the franchise had been wasted. Despite dedicating a significant portion of his career to crafting a highly successful live-action DC universe, he had not been approached or consulted about any meetings.

The DCEU, under the leadership of Zack Snyder, always faced controversy and fan dissatisfaction. However, the former WB president has confirmed that the Snyderverse was profitable. On the other hand, the Arrowverse had a loyal fanbase and received praise for its casting choices, even though it faced criticism towards the end. If Gunn and Safran aim to make the DCU a successful venture, they can take notes from the Arrowverse and consider casting its experienced actors as a positive step forward.
