Apple is set to release its most expensive movie, "Killers of the Flower Moon", and in anticipation of its debut, the company is significantly increasing the price of Apple TV+. The monthly plan will now cost $10/month, up by $3, while the annual plan will be raised to $100 from $70. These adjustments represent a more than 40% increase for both plans. The Verge reported on these pricing changes, although it remains unclear when they will take effect.
Notably, Apple TV+ is not the only streaming service to undergo a price hike this year. Netflix, Disney+, Max, Hulu, and Paramount+ have all implemented price increases in 2023.
Unlike other streaming services, Apple TV+ distinguishes itself by not providing a lower-priced, ad-supported option. These ad-based offerings are often profitable as the company can generate revenue from both subscription fees and brand advertisements.
Apple's upcoming major film, "Killers of the Flower Moon," directed by Martin Scorsese, has reportedly been allocated a budget of $200 million. Currently showing in theaters, this highly anticipated film will also be available on Apple TV+ in the near future.
Following a reported profit of $19.8 billion over the past quarter, Apple has announced its decision to raise the Apple One subscription package to $38 per month, along with an increase in the Apple Arcade gaming subscription to $7 per month.
Apple's list of original TV shows and movies include Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, For All Mankind, Shrinking, Severance, and more. Apple TV+ also hosts MLS games and Friday night MLB games.
