Apple TV+ is following the trend of other streaming services by increasing its subscription prices for the second time in a year.
The cost of Apple TV+ will increase from $6.99 to $9.99 per month, and the annual plan will rise from $69 to $99. Subscribers will need to pay additional fees to enjoy popular shows such as The Morning Show and the upcoming Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple TV+.
Apple TV+ has followed suit with many other streaming services by increasing its subscription prices for the second time in a year. The platform is known for its popular original series, such as Ted Lasso, Severance, and The Morning Show. Unlike other streamers, Apple TV+ only offered a single monthly subscription option.
According to Variety, Apple TV+ will now raise the prices of both their monthly and annual subscriptions, aligning themselves with other streaming services. The monthly cost will rise from $6.99 to $9.99, while the annual plan will increase from $69 to $99. As a result, viewers who are looking forward to highly-anticipated shows like the upcoming Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will be required to pay a higher monthly fee to access them.
Why Streaming Services Are Becoming More Expensive
Apple TV+ has recently raised its prices, marking the second increase in a year. Initially priced at $4.99 per month, the service was raised to $6.99 per month in October 2022. Now, Apple TV+ is following the footsteps of streaming giants such as Disney+, Hulu, Max, and Netflix by further raising their prices.
The hike in prices can be attributed to various factors, including the expenses involved in producing original content and ensuring profitability for the company. Additionally, these recent price increases may also be a response to the new agreement between the AMPTP and the WGA, which grants writers residuals from successful streaming programs. As a result, companies are making less money and are compensating by increasing subscription service prices.
Despite the price increase, watching Season 3 of The Morning Show or Season 2 of Invasion will demonstrate the dynamic nature of streaming. As production costs rise, there is a likelihood that other streaming platforms will also raise their prices in the following months. Nevertheless, even with the recent price hike, Apple TV+ remains a comparatively affordable streaming service.
