The US Ambassador to Japan and former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's vacation home in Michigan was vandalized with the word "NAZIS" sprayed on the fence, as confirmed by local authorities. Emanuel, a prominent Jewish politician, expressed gratitude for the support and condemnation of hatred and bigotry from friends, neighbors, and the community in a text message to the Chicago Sun-Times.
CNN has reached out to Emanuel for comment.
Undersheriff Charles E. Heit of the Berrien County Sheriffs Office said the office was notified of the incident around 9:50 p.m. on Friday.

Muslim and Arab Americans express increased vigilance due to the rise in hatred, causing them to question every decision they make. According to the sheriffs office, Emanuels vacation home is situated in Union Pier, Michigan, within New Buffalo Township. There are currently no leads regarding the vandalism, as confirmed by Heit.
CNN Senior Political Commentator David Axelrod, who previously collaborated with Emanuel during the Obama administration, expressed his strong disapproval of the situation on X. He condemned the act as deplorable and repugnant, stating that it serves as another alarming warning to halt the propagation of hatred, antisemitism, and Islamophobia, as their consequences are well-known.
Sheriff's spokesperson, Heit, announced that the law enforcement agency is taking immediate action by increasing patrols in the vicinity in response to the incident.
Following the October 7 Hamas terror attacks and the subsequent Israeli attacks on Gaza, incidents of vandalism have been observed in the United States, coinciding with an increase in reports of antisemitism, Islamophobia, and anti-Arab racism. FBI director Christopher Wray testified in October that levels of antisemitism in the country were reaching unprecedented heights.
