The musical theater adaptation of The Outsiders made its Broadway debut on Thursday, April 11. Lead producer Angelina Jolie, 48, credits her 15-year-old daughter Vivienne for playing a crucial role in helping her successfully bring the production to life. Jolie revealed to People that her daughter has been a valuable volunteer assistant, keeping her organized and on track throughout the process.
Angelina shared that her daughter Vivienne, whom she shares with ex Brad Pitt, is quick to correct her. According to Angelina, Vivienne will remind her about tasks and responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of following instructions.
Vivienne's involvement in the project was not a random decision. Angelina and the show's score creator, Justin Levine, recognized Vivienne's passion for theater. Angelina mentioned that her daughter approaches her role on the project with a high level of dedication. In a previous statement, Angelina credited Vivienne as the inspiration behind her involvement in the project.
That tracks with a statement Angelina released last year when she first confirmed that her daughter would help her on the production.

Last year, Angelina Jolie shared that Vivienne reminds her of her late mother, actress Marcheline Bertrand. She mentioned that Vivienne is not seeking the spotlight but rather enjoys supporting other creatives. According to Jolie, Vivienne is thoughtful, serious about theater, and dedicated to understanding how to contribute in the best way possible.
She mentioned to People that her daughter is a young artist who focuses on supporting others and has gained valuable insights from Justin Levine and the creative team.
The Outsiders is a stage adaptation of S.E. Hinton's 1967 novel and the 1983 Francis Ford Coppola-directed film of the same name. The musical debuted in San Diego in February and started previews on Broadway on March 16. Brody Grant and Jason Schmidt play the roles of Ponyboy Curtis and Sodapop "Soda" Curtis.
Angelina expressed her excitement for audiences to see the film. She shared that she was in the theater witnessing the first reactions, especially from young viewers, which often evoked emotional responses. She found the experience very touching.
Working with her children is not new to Angelina. She recently collaborated with her sons Maddox, 22, and Pax, 19 on the film Without Blood. In this war drama, Angelina served as the director while her sons worked in the assistant director department. Angelina and Brad Pitt have a total of six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox.
"We work well together. It feels like a big family when a film crew is at its best," Angelina shared with People in a recent interview.
The Outsiders is currently showing at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in New York City. You can purchase tickets at outsidersmusical.com.
