A Romanian court announced on Friday that the trial of Andrew Tate, an online influencer who claims to be a "misogynist," can proceed. Tate, along with his brother Tristan and two Romanian citizens, was charged in June with human trafficking, rape, and creating a criminal group to exploit women. They have all denied these accusations.
The Tate brothers have already appealed the ruling in Bucharest, Romania's capital, as the court has not confirmed a trial date yet. Mateea Petrescu, a spokeswoman for the brothers, shared this information.
Romanian prosecutors have accused the Tate brothers of seducing victims by making false promises of a relationship or marriage.
Eugen Vidineac, the lead counsel for the Tate brothers, expressed his opinion on Friday's ruling, stating that it lacks legal basis and reasoning. He also mentioned that they have already filed a strong appeal.
Adrian Sandulescu, the attorney representing the other two suspects, echoed similar sentiments, stating that he believes the decision is unlawful and lacks a solid foundation.
The Tate brothers, who are former professional kickboxers, were initially arrested in December 2022 and were held in police custody until April 2023. They were then put under house arrest. In March, a Romanian court agreed to extradite them to the United Kingdom, but only after their trial in Romania is finished.
Tate shot to internet fame in recent years, tallying billions of views on TikTok by ranting about male dominance, female submission and wealth.
