Romanian police announced on Tuesday that controversial internet influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been detained in Romania over UK sex offense charges on Monday.

According to a statement from the Romanian police, officers from the country’s Criminal Investigation Service and officers from the town of Voluntari carried out the arrest. They executed two European arrest warrants issued by the UK judicial authorities for the commission of sexual offences and exploitation of persons on the territory of Great Britain.

The public prosecutor of the Bucharest Court of Appeal ordered the detention of the two men for 24 hours in the Bucharest Police Headquarters, according to the statement.

In a statement on Tuesday, Tate's spokesperson Mateea Petrescu expressed that the Tate brothers are dismayed and deeply troubled by the unexpected revival of accusations from a decade ago.

Petrescu said that they firmly deny all accusations and are deeply disappointed that these serious allegations are being brought up again without any new evidence.

Tate and his brother were held in police custody in Bucharest for three months last year. They were later put under house arrest while being investigated for alleged mistreatment of seven women. They have both denied these allegations.

They were released in August and are currently under judicial control. They are not allowed to leave the Municipality of Bucharest and Ilfov county without permission from the court.

Both individuals are waiting for their trials in Romania. One is facing charges for human trafficking, rape, and involvement in a criminal group that sexually exploits women.
