After multiple failed attempts, a new Amy Winehouse biopic titled "Back to Black" is currently in development. The film will chronicle the singer's rise from a North London jazz performer to a Grammy-winning artist known for her chart-topping songs like "Rehab." The title of the biopic pays tribute to her highly praised album of the same name.
Amy Winehouse passed away in July 2011 due to alcohol poisoning after a long battle with addiction. She was only 27 years old. Several attempts have been made by Hollywood to create a film based on Winehouse's life. In 2018, Winehouse's family reached an agreement with Monumental Pictures to adapt her story, with Geoff Deane, the writer of Kinky Boots, leading the project. Noomi Rapace was cast as the singer of "Me and Mr. Jones," with Kristen Sheridan set to direct. However, the project eventually fell through.
Saving Amy, a biopic based on Daphne Barak’s 2010 book of the same name, was reportedly in development from Halcyon Studio in late 2021, but unfortunately, it also didn’t reach the silver screen.
