Cody Christian, the star of All American, mentioned that his character's choice to recruit a controversial player will stir up some major drama among the friend group.

"I believe tensions will increase and relationships will be put to the test," Christian, 29, shared exclusively with We as he discussed season 6 of the CW series. "People will have strong opinions about his decision, and if he is committed to it and stands by it, he will need to support his choice and empathize with others' perspectives to avoid a major conflict."

In the recent episode of the football drama on Monday, April 15, Christian's character, Asher Adams, faced a challenge as Coastal California's assistant coach when the team's quarterback was injured. With no player to fill the position, Asher spent most of the episode searching for a replacement for the remainder of the season. Finally, in the episode's closing moments, he turned to Wade Waters (Christian James), the former QB1 for Spencer (Daniel Ezra) and Jordan's (Michael Evans Behling) Golden Angeles University.

Wade made his debut in season 4 of the teen drama, where he gained attention by bullying his freshman teammates and pressuring Jordan to secure a NIL deal while showing off his own. This behavior led to Oliver Baker (Samantha Logan) writing a story that portrayed him as a cautionary tale against NIL, resulting in his removal from the team. In retaliation, Wade posted a defamatory tweet about her and later went on to have Spencer, Olivia, and Jordan’s party swatted by the police.

All American fans will be surprised to see Asher recruiting Wade to Coastal California, the rival team of GAU. Christian shared with Us that this decision was not made hastily and showcases Asher’s growth throughout the previous seasons.

Asher has reached a crossroads in his life. In the past, he used to act selfishly, only thinking about his own benefit, even if it meant hurting others in the process. However, in season 6, we see a different Asher. He has grown and matured, becoming more conscious of the choices he makes and how they will affect those around him.

Cody Christian shared that Asher's decision to recruit Wade was not an easy one, but it was necessary for him to prove himself as a valuable asset to the coaching staff. As an assistant coach with a position that was technically created for him on the team, Asher is determined to show that he is more than capable and to demonstrate why he deserves to be there.

Giving Wade a second chance also holds a personal significance for Asher, who was initially portrayed as an antagonist in season 1 before transforming into a beloved member of the show's friend group.

In the course of his football journey, Asher made many mistakes and went through a development process. Throughout this time, individuals like Billy Baker and Mrs. Montez supported him, saw his potential, and gave him a chance to redeem himself if he put in the effort.

As a coach, Asher sees a similar potential in Wade and is hopeful that his instincts about him are accurate. He is making a decision with optimism, hoping for the best outcome.

According to Christian, Asher will handle the situation with care and approach it from a new perspective that differs from his past behavior.

He acknowledged that younger Asher would have made hasty decisions without much thought, but the older Asher now carefully considers the consequences and prioritizes his own well-being and career. This shows a more mature and thoughtful approach. Asher is aware of how his decisions will impact everyone involved.

Despite Asher's understanding and mature approach, there are limitations, especially when it comes to Wade's troubled past. Christian admitted that Wade has done some unforgivable things, making it challenging to gain support for any decision involving him. Winning people over in this situation will not be easy.

That doesn’t mean all hope is lost for The Vortex. Christian mentioned that the gang has been through a lot in the past six years. They even helped Asher and his girlfriend, Jaymee (Miya Horcher), raise their son AJ. This bond they share is strong and not easily broken.

Christian reassured that the journey The Vortex has taken is solid. Despite the challenges they faced, their bond remains unbreakable. He doesn't believe that Wade will cause any significant damage to their group.

All American airs on The CW Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.

Editor's P/S:

Cody Christian's insights into his character's choice in All American highlight the complexities of Asher's growth. Asher's decision to recruit Wade Waters, despite his controversial past, reflects his journey from a selfish individual to a compassionate and supportive coach. However, the challenges posed by Wade's actions create a delicate balance for Asher, who must navigate the delicate line between giving someone a second chance and the potential consequences of his choice.

Christian's emphasis on Asher's maturity and awareness of the impact of his decisions suggests a thoughtful approach to his character's development. Asher's willingness to empathize with others' perspectives, coupled with his understanding of the limitations imposed by Wade's past, demonstrates a shift from impulsive behaviors to a more strategic and mindful decision-making process. Nonetheless, the article hints at potential conflicts within the friend group, and it remains to be seen how Asher's choice will ultimately affect their bond and the dynamic of the show.
