Over the course of her career, Alicia Keys has proven that she can pull anything off — including head-to-toe denim.
On Sunday, November 19, Keys, 42, added her personal touch to the Canadian tuxedo by donning a structured, cropped denim jacket paired with high-waisted denim pants featuring two front pockets and tiered stitching. The outfit was accentuated by large gold buttons running from her neck to past her waist, giving the appearance of a jumpsuit.
Accessorizing with oversized gold earrings and delicate rings on both hands, Keys wore her hair in braids and opted for black winged eyeliner, silver eyeshadow, and classic pink lipstick to complete the look.
Keys was seen sporting her new look at the opening night of her musical, Hell’s Kitchen, at The Public Theater in New York City. She appeared relaxed as she took photos with the cast and crew before entering the venue. Keys collaborated with Pulitzer Prize-finalist playwright Kristoffer Diaz to create the coming-of-age tale, for which she wrote the music and lyrics.
The musical takes place in the 1990s. It follows 17-year-old Ali, who encounters tough lessons about race, love and growing up as she navigates her adolescence in New York City under the protective wing of her mother. When Ali makes an unexpected friend in a piano-playing neighbor, the course of her life is forever changed.
The musical is loosely inspired by Keys' personal life, featuring a mix of new and classic Grammy-winning songs. Talented rising star Maleah Joi Moon takes on the role of Ali. In a Vogue interview on September 12, Keys discussed her creative vision for the musical and her collaboration with Diaz. "When I connected with Kris, it was like he understood exactly what I did, and I understood what he did," Keys shared, expressing her excitement about their creative connection.

As for her opinion on Moon?
"It was incredibly challenging to find someone with the right vocal talent and street energy for that role, as well as the natural beauty and authenticity," Keys revealed to Vogue. "It's undeniable that we are witnessing the birth of a star."
