Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive has confirmed that Alan Wake, the protagonist of Remedy Entertainment's action horror titles of the same name, will be added to the game later this month. Having become a celebration of all things horror, Dead by Daylight has played host to an impressive number of high-profile collaborations with characters like Freddy Kreuger, Michael Myers, Ghostface, Chucky, and a whole lot more over its seven years since launch.

Though Alan Wake became a cult classic after it was released in 2010, it had laid dormant for over a decade until October 2023, when Remedy Entertainment finally released its long awaited sequel. Alan Wake 2 wowed critics and audiences alike with its elusive investigative narrative, new co-protagonist Saga Anderson, its noir-soaked NYC setting, and its sharp visual design. It very quickly became one of the most beloved games of last year, and later left the 2023 Game Awards with three wins for Best Narrative, Art Direction, and Game Design.

Now, Behaviour Interactive has confirmed that Remedy's tortured fiction writer, Alan Wake, is indeed coming to Dead by Daylight as the game's newest Survivor. In a 90-second cinematic trailer featuring Alan frantically typing in his writer's room before being beckoned outside to find a humming generator, Dead by Daylight confirmed Wake's arrival for January 30. The trailer shows Alan in his sharp black suit and longer hair from Alan Wake 2, playing off the huge success of the sequel.

Dead by Daylight has also released a blog post highlighting Alan Wake's Survivor perks. Champion of Light, named after Alan Wake 2's hit in-game musical performance by the Old Gods of Asgard, gives players 50% Haste while shining Wake's iconic flashlight. In the spirit of Alan Wake and Alan Wake 2's streetlamp safe spots, which provide players a moment of respite to resupply, Boon: Illumination lets Wake bless a Totem, highlighting nearby chests and generators for himself and fellow survivors in a 24-meter radius.

The Impact of Alan Wake's Arrival

Alan Wake's arrival in Dead by Daylight marks another exciting milestone for the popular horror game. With the addition of this iconic character, players can look forward to a new and thrilling gameplay experience as they navigate the game's intense challenges and objectives. The introduction of Alan Wake also opens up possibilities for future collaborations and expansions within the Dead by Daylight universe.

While it'll be a couple more weeks before Alan Wake writes himself into Dead by Daylight, it's interesting to ponder the possibility of other characters from Alan Wake 2 joining him in Dead by Daylight's horror universe. Saga Anderson or Alex Casey could make for great Survivors, and Alan Wake's Pacific Northwest setting of Bright Falls would be an excellent choice for a new Dead by Daylight map. Time will tell whether Dead by Daylight will incorporate more from Alan Wake in the future. For now, fans can look forward to Alan coming to the game later this month.

The Legacy of Alan Wake and Dead by Daylight

The collaboration between Alan Wake and Dead by Daylight represents a convergence of two beloved horror franchises.
